Organizing Playlists

I'm very curious about the best way to organize music. my trance collection is getting abit out of hand and I'm not sure if the best way to organize it is by sub genre since many tracks would crossover into different ones.. I know PVD, Sasha, etc spin using thier laptops, any ideas how they organize it? I've tried to organize it by preference, but that doesn't seem to be working out well either..

Ideas?

alphabetically...by label...similar sounding tunes...if youre on your laptop with mp3s then you could double up the crossover tracks to both subgenres if thats what you wanna do, though may be slightly wasteful of memory.

maybe have everything (all your legally downloaded mp3s) in one dir, and then create playlists, in where you select similar sounding songs (or songs within the same genre), and save the playlists somewhere easily accessable? won't waste any memory.

Thats one thing I've been trying to do is organize by how they sound. But in which way? I've tried Instrumental, vocal, bpm etc. But it doesn't seem to work for me when trying to find something quickly or schuffling.
