Those of you who have been to Berlin, Prague, Vienna or Munich: please help!

Going to Europe at Christmas/Channukah/NYE time... for those of you who have been to the above-mentioned cities, what is nice to see/do in these places?

Furthermore, how is the nightlife and what are some of the famous/popular clubs?

Berlin
Awesome, awesome city. Probably one of the most interesting cities in all of Europe with a great balance of culture, people, and nightlife. As for what to do the list is endless, former WW2 sites such as the Hitler bunker, one of the most awe inspiring Synogogues in Europe left riddled with bulletholes from the time of Nazi domination left as a stark reminder of the attrocities committed in the past, the new Holocaust memorial, the remants of the Berlin wall, checkpoint Charlie, the Reichestag, the Tiergarten with its infamous victory coloumn, etc..

As for nightlife, you're pretty much looking at Techno heaven. Even with the closure of the legendary Tresor, there still exists an abundant number of clubs worth hitting especially Casino and Collumbiahalle (when something's going on there). Most of the best clubs seem to be in and around the old East Berlin since a lot of the old Soviet era warehouses and buildings were converted into nightclubs shortly after their downfall in the 90's. I believe this district is somewhat East of the area known as Alexander Platz.

Prague
The Mexico of Europe! Quite literally .. especially when you go 250 kr for every $1 CDN dolla. It's a joke and you'll be living like a king no doubt. Make sure you dine on the shark meat cooked in red wine for a measely $15 CDN. Beer there is called Pivo and it's served in pints.. for something like 20 kr .. which is like $1.50 CDN! LOL.

Cz Republic was admitted into the EU in May 2004, do NOT spend your Euros there is possible!

As for sites, the Grand Plaza, St. Charles Bridge, and the Astronomical clock. Don't waste time with the Metronome, rather if you have some time, take a day trip to Cheski Krumlov for some spectacular medieval castles. Czechoslovakia as it was known at the time was never bombed during WW2 since Nazi occupation was met with an absence of resistance so many of the countries historical buildings are still intact. Check out the oldest Jewish community in Europe to get in touch with your Semetic heritage.

As for nightlife, one only needs to go to the Roxy located next to the Backpackers Hostel's. A systemsoundbar like club with some amazing music, and women.. err people.
Avoid the "big" club near the Charles bridge for it's uber tackyness and tourist trap aura.

Vienna
If you like classic music and Mozart you'll love this city. Siteworthy places are the Schonbrunn, and Belvadier palaces. Take the time out of your day to catch a concerto ala. Mozart in one of the many opera houses throughout the city. Lots of great food around as well.

As for nightlife, Vienna is burgeoning when it comes to the Drum & Bass scene. Try dropping by Wombats hostel for some tips on where to go where you'll always find a good crowd.

hope you hav a great trip!

Just got back from Berlin a month ago and it is indeed a techno lovers wet dream. *cough* I went to Berghain (www.berghain.de) and maria (can't remember the website) and both were in the area surrounding the Ostbanhof station. James Holden was playing at Maria, I dont know who it was at Berghain but it was the hardest mofo techno I have ever heard in my life!! So good. It goes from midnight to noonish.

I can't even begin to list the things to see and do in Berlin outside of clubbing - we didn't get to nearly enough of it and we were there for 5 days.

Thanks emz and skipper

It's so much easier to get this down when it's posted on TA, instead of everyone telling me about Europe when we are in the club

Keep it coming guys, all responses welcome!

munich is a cool city , town hall is nice and there is some excellent shopping. it is also a big drinking town as it is in bavaria. expect massive beers in 1 litre glasses, a visit to the local beer halls is a must!
Prost!
