PC Help!

i just got a new pc the other weekend and already i'm having problems. it seems to like randomly restarting on me. this can be while im watching a film, browsing the web, or even not using it.

i put an old HDD, two cd drives and some memory from my old PC into it. im not really sure what the problem could be with. anyone had anything similar or any helpful advice?

What operating system do you have? If it's ME/XP then this probably is the worm or welchia or how that shit is called, it's a virus, google it for removal.

Sounds either like an overheating issue or a faulty PSU.

You have any temp monitoring software?

Go into safe mode and do a virus scan. If you've kept your anti-virus definitions in any kind of shape theyll ctach the virus bananas mentioned. If it's not a virus, open your box and check your power connectors and ide cables to make sure they're snug. Check the RAM too, these things can be knocked loose in transfer. I would guess it isn't overheating because it would likely shut off, not reboot, but this may be wrong.

If this doesn't solve your problem, take it back. Remember, if you have a computer with a fresh install of any version of windows, make sure to get the Windows Updates to secure any problems Microsoft may have had with the software.

remove the ram and see what happens. i assume ur pc ran fine before you add your old stuff. if you have a cheap underrated psu it might not be able to power all your accesories you've added.

ive got xp so i guess i can do a virus scan, though im pretty sure it wouldnt be that as i keep my O.S up to date, and ive had the worm before, its not the one that shuts your comp down everytime you open IE

i'll check all my connections and that when i get in and make sure they're all firmly in place.

thanks for the good advice, i was expecting a lot more replies like kid nyce's life enriching post.

1. Grab hammer
2. beat your pc until you cannot tell if it is a pc anymore, and if you have an lcd monitor make sure you throw that out a high window for good measure.

Success! Your PC should stay turned off!
