Dealer who left GHB victim to die jailed

Taken from Nine MSN

Thursday Nov 3 08:56 AEST

The dealer who supplied the drugs which killed Victoria's first victim of party drug gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) has been sentenced to three months' jail.

Abraham Welly Wong, 28, of Prahran, has pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court to eight charges including trafficking, possessing and using drugs and administering a drug of dependence to another person.

Magistrate Paresa Spanos sentenced Wong to three months' jail for trafficking and two months for possession, to be served concurrently.

He immediately lodged an appeal against the sentence and was bailed to appear in the County Court on March 1 next year.

Twenty-one-year-old nurse Belinda Davey was celebrating a friend's 21st birthday at the Pure Hard Dance nightclub in a laneway off Russell Street in Melbourne last February 19.

She was found dead in Wong's car after drinking liquid GHB, also known by the street name Grievous Bodily Harm, believing it was water.

Instead of calling an ambulance, Wong rubbed amphetamines into her gums, mistakenly believing it would be an antidote for the GHB.

Three months doesn't seem like that long to me. What do you guys think?

Sure the dealer has some fault, but i still think it's the victims who are stupid enough to buy drugs in the first place are at fault more.

Maybe if he was actually caught selling her the drug, then thats a different story despite him pleading guilty.

ahh who knows.

sad sad story.

You would think a nurse would know better :/

it just seems with g there seems to be so much wrong/innaccurate information tho'-

like i just dont get why ghb is known as greivous bodily harm...it does not make sense.

wasnt there that pom guy who ripped out his mrs teeth cos after a few months of full on g use he thought his wife was possesed by a witch and pulling her teeth out was the only way to get rid of it?

and then there is 1-4B which is like fake g- and thats the one that acutally is the killer? or something -

i dunno...wouldnt amphs be an antidote (to a degree) for a g overdose?
cos doesnt g slow down your heart/body while speeding up ur metabolism?

i find the whole g thing very fuzzy.
there needs to be more proper info on it - rather than just "its bad mmmkay" and "G heads go home"
i find that one funny tho.

considerign what would happen if mr wong was caught doign the same shit back home, yeh i think 3months is bullshit!!

note- mr wong may well have been born in australia, it was a joking reference to the rules being a bit too harsh in bali/singapore etc and a bit too leniant here in australia..

Our sentencing is oriented towards rehabilitation whereas theirs is just punitive. I remember reading in an earlier news story the dealer had done some things and made some changes which helped him when he was being sentenced ie turning to religion yada yada.

I think though a sentence of that time length and also being granted bail is very light when if it were not for his inaction then she would probably be alive.

um yea
I've posted before what my best friend was caught with when he was dealing and he got off. I have no tolerance for drug dealers as i see it he maybe didnt force her to drink out of the bottle, but he sure as hell didnt try and get help when he knew she was dead/dying. So he is partly responsible.

3 months pfft! Soft.

At least he's got a criminal record now (if he didn't before) so that'll fuck up his life permanently.

I agree that there is not enough information. I would have no idea what to if someone "blew out".

Making the users outcasts is certainly not the answer but yeah...just dont do it! mmmkay

Well of course

What I really meant was I dont have much of an understanding as to how and why they occur?

I think if someone's on drugs they run the risk of overdosing and dying. Much like when you drive a car you run the risk of having an accident. Why put the blame on others? No one forces anyone to do drugs.

*jumps on soapbox*

your right dave.. this seems to be yet another case of where people dont want to take responsibility for their own actions. it is not the governments responsibility or whatever to teach you what needs to be done in an emergency, or why they occur. this should be found out by people who are doing it if they care enough to do so. Enough ads are/were put on tv to open peoples eyes to the pitfuls of doing drugs and how you dont know where they come from etc etc etc.

if you do drugs, you may die from doing so... simple!!!
