Angry Sony/BMG

quote:
On Monday, October 31, alert users discovered that Sony BMG is using copy-protected CDs to surreptitiously install its digital rights management technology onto PCs. You don't have to be ripping the CD, either--just playing it from your CD-ROM drive triggers the installation. The software installs itself as a root kit, which is a set of tools commonly used to make certain files and processes undetectable, and they're the favored tool of crackers who are, as Wikipedia puts it, attempting to "maintain access to a system for malicious purposes." In fact, root kits are often classified alongside Trojan horses. And Mark Russinovich, who created a root-kit detection utility and was one of the first to blog about the Sony intrusion, discovered another little gem when he tried to remove the DRM drivers. It broke his computer--disabling his CD drive.

No Shit!

I had installed a few sony products, but it reinstalled a few things that i thought were fishy, anyway afterwards my computer crashed and disabled my CD-Rom causing all sorts of mayhem.

Paranoia coming true is scary...

Can it be removed?

Re: Sony/BMG

and the big companies wonder why we turn to the www for our music stupid stupid stupid fvcks. and i bet the copy protection on it is about as successful as the sony CD i ripped the other day.

treat your PC like a temple kids. always be aware of what youre sticking into it.

whilst i do not advocate piracy at all (i buy everything that i sample illegally & enjoy) it really is great to see us humble consumers bringing the greedy, malicious fvcks to their knees. hahaha, like DVD-region coding. oh, thats being stopped now is it? take that you stupid cvnts.

youre never gonna get a copy-protected piece of music or software. the sooner they realise that the better. how about putting effort into providing excellent products at a reasonable price, in a non market-segregating kinda way?

so fuck you sony, WB & all other companies that are crying like lil bitches since we usurped their power base.

In a meeting at sony....
"so..whats our next technological advance to wow the world?"
"well, weve got the psp and ps3... how bout we do something new with cds?"
"like what?"
"i dunno, put some sneaky stuff to make it kill the computers"?
"omglol, win!"

isnt this one of those things that could call for some sort of..legal settlement?
