Read This! symbolism in life?

odd topic, eh? i know. i don't know if any of you guys are any good with symbolism, but for those of you who do i have a question for you.
do you notice symbolism in every day life? this question ties in with karma and fate. for instance, i'll give you the weirdest example i have, it might help you understand. don't laugh at me.

ok, so i was on shrooms (don't all stories start like that ? ) the other night and i was thinking about religion. i didn't want to, but i was. i was thinking about this one girl that seems to really like me, but is incredibly religious and wholesome, and this other girl that is always flirting with me, who is the total opposite of this other girl. she's a witch, really. dark red hair, dresses all in black. if the anti-christ was going to date, he'd date her. anyways.
i was trippin out thinking that i was going to have to make a choice, and either join the side of god, or go against him and join leagues with satan. this choice was obviously symbolized by the two girls.

now, please excuse that vague and abstract explanation of what i am trying to explain.

do you guys notice that important choices or reprecussions are usually characterized in some way, shape, or form in every day life?
i know i have better examples of what i am trying to convey, but nothing comes to mind off hand. if you guys know what the hell i am trying to say, tell me.

Dude, I TOTALLY understand what you are talking about..

life is all about symbolism..

there is that which is tangible, and that which is real..

a girl, she is tangible. the other girl, also tangible.
the feelings you have for her, the emotional struggle you go through trying to decide, that is real.. it is something that has existed forever, and will always exist.

the bible, is tangible. but it isn't "real" it was created by man, therefore it is temporary. however, the concepts in the bible.. now those are real.. they have always, and will always exist, in the bible, in the koran, and in everyones head.

anyway, if that is muddled, i'm sorry.. but you get the point. it's real.

the point is, you can live your life by the tangible, or look beyond into the real. the latter is much more enlightened.

Symbols are all around us........think of colors......in some parts of the world.......white is pure.......white is associated with angels. Red is associated with hell and the devil. All symbols. Black, goth or mourning. So in my opinion, symbols are everywhere because everything means something different to someone. It shows how unique the world around us is and that is what i love about life, the uniqueness of everything.

hehe gekhaus

and well, you are talking about the symbolism between these two girls. But these symbols are only really how you percieve them. If you think devilgirl is really evil because she is dark etc, then another person may think she is godly because she is dark ? I dont know..... it's a really conceptual subject ?

mhmmm too heavy for me, and i dont do shrooms or whatever

Symbolism is both everywhere and nowhere: symbolism, objectively, doesn't exist - the Crucifix doesn't objectively signify Christianity for example, it just is. We only look at the crucifix as a symbol of Christianity because we have chosen to associate that symbol with that ideaology. So symbolism, objectively, doesn't exist at all, but subjectively it exists everywhere. We create symbolism: we associate certain images, sounds, tastes etc. with experiences detached from their independant, objective existence.

Thus, because symbolism is entirely subjective, we are free to create our own symbolism, and, in fact, this association we create between certain imagery or other sensual impressions and a particular emotional response or ideaology would have been essential for our survival at the dawn of humanity (lion symbolises danger and death, red berries symbolise poison and death, fire symbolises warmth and....erm..... death).

Long story short, we find symbolsim wherever we like and are free to create our own. Symbolism helps us understand possibly transcendent ideas (death, love, spirituality etc.) in tangible terms, and thus helps us to understand that which we would otherwise be unable to. Symbolism gives us meaning and we are free to create that meaning wherever we wish.

Heh, so another good topic BSE. Keep those shrooms fresh, keep these slightly insane topics rolling.

not to be nit picky or anything, but most witchcraft usually is tied in with wicca, or some other earth based belief system/religion.. usually deals with several gods, all of which are positive and good, and believes in an earth spirit, nature, etc. also, you didnt mention it but ill clear it up just in case it does, but satanism the religion also has zero to do with the christian version of satan, or anything evil also.

so are you sure she is a "witch", or are you just assuming shes into evil things because she wears black and has dark red hair? that is *exactly how i used to dress* (im from the industrial scene... had bright red hair at one point too) and so many peopel used to think i was evil and mean just because of my appearance even tho ive always been friendly and nice, people just tend to assume.

who knows, maybe this is a lesson that perhaps people who tend to look not normal, and may APPEAR evil or negative may actually be completely different people if you stop and look. a non-judgement lesson if it may.

heh, or maybe im completely wrong and she is one of those trendy kids nowadays who listens to marilyn manson, claims he/she is goth and claims to worship the devil even tho there is no backing to that.

Sothis, be honest, when u dress that way, u cant expect ppl not to think that way... i know some goths, and they r all good & nice ppl, but well, they dress... well... weird... eventhough they r nice ppl, and not into satan or anything, they just make the appearance of being dark & evil... its a choice they make...

*see part about harley tripping on shrooms, sothis. *

she isn't a wiccan. she's pagan. what religion she practices isn't relative to my subject, i was merely using a situation to illustrate what i meant by 'symbolism in life'. hmm. this is harder than i thought. i don't think i'll ever really be able to elaborate any more than what i have, at least not in this tired state of mind.

that is completely relative to your experiences, or how open or non-judgemental you are.

if i had never dressed like that, or been a part of any scene outside of the norm (whether it be the industrial scene, punk scene, whatever)... you are right, i probably would have thought the same things... however now, i usually assume everyone is a nice, friendly person, until i am proven wrong.

so its not that i didnt expect people to think differently, it always was just kind of sad, to see first hand, every day, the judgemental nature of people.
