Head-Fi in Transit! (Free PVD CD - Click Here)

Alright, so I guess the c0r is the place to get the best attention when it comes to music players. I'm sure we all have different mp3 players, all of different variations (or all the same for ipod's sake), now as important of a choice is to picking the player, the headphones to compliment are equally essential.

So give me your reviews, your choices, the price you paid for them and quality of make. Please include a bass rating also...

AND NO, I'm not talking about DJ Headphones, I'm talking about the headphones you rock when you are on the go, ie: Shure's, Sony's, etc..

I'll start...

Sony MDR-EX71 (Black) US-Spec (not JSpec)
-They are the best sounding noise-cancelling headphones out there right now for the money.
-Bass rating I'd say I'd give it a 6.5-7 out of 10.

-I've also had this problem with these headphones. The wire covering is made of a this nice soft-to-touch shielding which always seems to break apart. It basically starts with 1 little nick in the shielding and eventually escalates into completely coming off and exposing the actual wiring. Has anyone had this problem?

I've gone through 5 pairs this year of these headphones, I love them but I hate how poorly they have been built.

Thus the reason for this thread, I'm looking for something comparable in price, bass and sound quality, as well as noise cancellation.

I've tried the shure's and I am considering investing 100-300 on a pair of headphones (yes it sounds ridiculoso) but when you live in NYC, there is so much noise pollution that it is essential to cancel out all that extra noise. So tell me what you rock on the go and maybe offer up some suggestions...I'd like to know..

*edit*
Changed the title in hopes that people will actually reply to this freakin thread. I need your help you music junkies, I know you people all have your preferences when it comes to mp3 players, help me out with your headphone selections bastards!

The soft to touch cable you speak of is infamous for not lasting long so don't worry you're not the only one in that situation.

Now unto the more expensive earbuds what have you thought of the Shure's?

Shure recently come out with extra soft black silicone tips for the earbuds so they're more comfortable as ever before.

There are other brands out there too which I'm sure you're well aware of and it's up to your personal preference for you to pick.
There's etymotic in the lower price range but you could get up to 400+ on earbuds with some other brands so it's really your call.

check out http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/foru...hp?s=&forumid=2 it'll be very biased but you'll find a lot more info then you would here.

I've been at head-fi quite often and they are a bunch of elitest like any forum I suppose. Although I've gathered quite alot of info from there about the Shure's as well as the Sony's be it that there are production flaws in their earbuds.

I do however hear that Sony's EX71 J-Spec is made rather well with no fraying over 6 months. In the past 3 months I've gone through 2 pairs of EX71s. It could quite possibly be that I wear these headphones to the gym and sweating makes the material more prone to tearing/ripping.

I looked at etymotic but I'm not happy with their earbud design. The wire configuration is nice...

jdat rastamon, we have more in common that I thought...you seem to share similar hobbyist taste as I. now hook me up with your sneakers hahah

Well you still can't make a decision?

Btw the Ultimate Ears is a lesser known brand that seems to be fairly good and they seem a bit similar at least design wise to your Sony's:
http://www.ultimateears.com/superfi...tudio_white.htm
a hundred bucks!

Or maybe you'll prefer these for a little 900 bucks:

But seriously don't they have head fi dedicated shops in New York or something? I'd assume so .... but testing earbuds in stores is always an iffy subject.
Or maybe I'm just saying that cause I'm wearing AM90 Staples ( the manhattan lasered ones )

Now where's my damn Pvd cd? :P

BAIT HOOK REEL...

look who clicked thank you ftw!

jdatty

I can't make my decision, i can't committ that much money to shure's. I can't even committ that money to a pair of tiffany dunks let alone a pair of headphones lols.

I listened to the e3c's but they were kinda shitty. Way too trebley and not enough punch like sony's. the e4's same thing, but no way am i spending 300 for a pair of phones...chill

I've had a pair of the MDR-EX71s for over 6 months now without a problem. I picked up an extra pair of them a few weeks ago from buy.com because they were on sale for like $28 plus shipping and Christina was getting some other things already, so we just combined them.

She has the Shure's I think, and her complaint with them is that she can almost hear too well with them for an IPod. With the MP3's, live sets, and poorly mastered CDs, she complains that she can hear the flaws too much. I think she wishes that she got the ones that I did and saved the money, even if she has to buy a 2-3 pairs to last the same time.

I blew out the regular IPod buds within 4 months of getting mine and the EX71s were a really good replacement in my mind.

Here's the buy.com link if anyone wants it.
