Arrow John Askew - Lower The Tone New Triple Cd Album

John Askew - ‘Lower The Tone’ album
Release Date: 5th December
Label: Discover
Distribution: Amato

In a scene where DJs are two a penny and mix albums are as regular as buses it takes a special kind of DJ with a special kind of talent and vision to push the boundaries just that bit further. Step forward John Askew - his eagerly awaited debut album ‘Lower The Tone’ hits the stores just in time for Christmas festivities.

John Askew is a name on the London club scene that really needs no introduction. Having played at some of the biggest events the capital has had to offer and with residencies at the Gallery and Ministry Sound he has wowed over 450,000 clubbers worldwide alone this year with his unsurpassable mixing talents and unique brand of driving, energetic Tech Trance. Now John is all set to release his debut artist album entitled ‘Lower The Tone’ – a triple cd album which will set a new standard within his scene. It’s also an in-depth look into the music behind the man.

The first cd is a DJ friendly unmixed back catalogue of some of John’s favourite self-productions. As you’d expect it’s over an hours worth of totally banging floor savaging Tech Trance that is packed full to the rafters with heavy dance artillery that many a budding DJ will be desperate to get their hands on.

The second cd is the aptly named ‘Live as f**king f**k’, which was recorded earlier this year at The Gallery, Turnmills. When we live in a world of airbrushing imperfections and editing mistakes it’s refreshing to see that one DJ is going against the grain. This really is a true reflection of a peak time John Askew set…it’s as if you’re there. It comes complete with crowd noises and the occasional imperfection (none of us are perfect!), but John has ventured into un-chartered territory by releasing a mix album that has been totally un edited and really is what it says on the tin ‘Live As f**king f**k’.

This last cd is more unconventional than the other two. With this extra CD John has had the chance to feature a few more “alternative” tracks. Mixed Emotions is based on personal experiences of fear, anger, frustration, anxiety, random insanity and good old deranged humour. The latter is articulated through the twenty-minute recording that John made of a room full of mates who had been awake for 2 days getting hammered! The conversation is so unhinged and side splittingly amusing that he felt it would have been unfair to not share the banter with you.

Profile

John Askew is without doubt one of the hottest tech/trance producer/djs in the UK, if not the World, right now. After the huge success of his debut single “Vellum” in 2001, he has delivered release after release of consistently high quality club music – either on his own Discover label or via one of his many remixes for high profile labels such as Duty Free, Ministry of Sound, Euphonic and Paul van Dyk’s legendary Vandit.

From guest appearances on BBC Radio One, to London’s prestigious Kiss 100 offering him his own show; from exclusive residencies at 2 of the World’s most influential clubs (The Gallery and Ministry of Sound) to an ever increasing diary of guest slots around the world, John Askew is now enjoying the rewards for over a decade of consistently hard work.

For 2 years John has rocked the main room at Ministry with his legendary, end of the night sets. Since 2001 John has also been pushing his distinctive sounds to the masses through his record label - Discover - which has seen releases from the likes of The Thrillseekers, Pablo Gargano and Germany’s Kyau vs Albert to name but a few.

Today, Discover is often credited in the press as a trend setting label that enjoys an almost Cult status. Its strict music policies, instigated by John, firmly oppose “cheesy melodies, predictable clichés and horrendous, meaningless female vocals that in John’s mind have tarnished so much of the scene today.

John’s dj sets reflect his highly opinionated views on music. His ear for high quality music, without always taking the obvious anthemetic route, and subtle, yet highly emotive melodies, derived from years of song writing in a plethora of rock bands, makes each and every one of John’s sets unique.

Comments?

Cheers

As much as i'm looking forward to this i don't see why they've put such a late release date. Most of the CD1 is familiar territory and CD2 will be dated by then. :\
