(you have to pay for the professional mods, however)

Heres another thing, If you already own halflife originally before steam came out, You can use the CD Key that came with the copy you bought a long time ago, Add it into your account at Steam and it will download the full game for you, No need to install your old cd of Halflife. As long as you had the CD Key for it, It would be tied to your Steam account everytime you load it, Even if say you reformated your computer and reinstalled the steam client, You can be able to redownload the full Halflife since it's registered to your account.

if you buy original half life, you get access to all the original mods, like cs, dod, ricochet, etc.
