Re: Houston....just moved back

Ok after a 2 1/2 year military career that ended abruptly for medical reasons, I just moved back to Houston. I've been in and out on leave for a couple weeks a year, but the last time I lived here full time I wasn't 21, so my knowledge of nightlife and venues is limited. Mostly I've just been going to the big gigs every month or two when someone with a big name comes in town, but I'd like to be going out more regularly.
So, if people can help give me a rundown of the regular nights that are quality, and which venues are good and which shit, and how much I can expect to pay for drinks at these places (or should I just show up drunk and save my money), that would be awesome. I use www.77002.com for my info on the bigger stuff and whatever else they put up there, but it's finding the regular Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights that's giving me trouble. I know that Rich's/2401 San Jacinto used to have decent music and nights on Saturdays (now that it's not just a gay bar anymore), but that place has gone through so much change recently that I don't know what the deal with it is now. I'm looking for good music, good atmosphere, and attractive girls never hurt either. |
say to say bro...but beyond the events posted on www.77002.com and www.houstonbeats.com, the only shit goin down is your typical hip hop/latin music scene on richmond and main street
what branh were you in btw?

I was in the Navy, but I was stationed at the Naval Academy so it was a weird combination of officer training, college, and active-duty deployment. I was just over a year from being commissioned as an Ensign and going to flight school when the medical stuff happened, but the good news is that due to a bunch of extra surgery I had I might be able to get a medical waiver and still make it to flight school.

Sure does, you win the prize. But that's still active duty service, which not a lot of people know, and while it's different and people all have their own opinions about it, it's a tough place to be. It's hard to explain to a lot of people though, because it's such an odd combination and not everyone knows much about it. It's just, well, different than anything else in the military, but no less difficult or demanding.
Hope to see lots of people at Deep Dish, and hopefully Houston will, indeed, become more interesting. Maybe I'll get the chance to promote myself and move from the bedroom to clubs with my uber vinyl skills (lol).
