music production pc

i plan on getting a new computer since i need one badly my old piece of shit comp just aint cutting it that much anymore i was looking around a website and they have build your own PC, i picked the list of stats im about to show, my question is do people here think thats a good setup to produce on

- AMD Athlon(TM) 64 3400+ (2.2GHz / 512KB L2 cache)
- Presario SR1030Z -
- Integrated 5.1 Capable Sound - soundcard that comes with it
- NVIDIA GeForce 6200SE w/TurboCache 256MB support
- 200GB 7200 rpm SATA Hard Drive
- 512 MB DDR / PC3200 (1 DIMM)
- 48x max. CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive (48x32x16x48x)
- 48x max. CD-ROM Drive
- Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
- Microsoft(R) Works 8.0/ Money / MSN Encarta Plus
- 3.5in. 1.44MB Floppy Drive
- 2 USB 2.0, 1 Firewire, + Front Audio Ports

the only thing i can think that isnt that great is the 512 mb ddr
but i've worked with 128 mb since i started producing so i figured that would make a big improvement although i might just go with 1 or 2 gb's depending on how much extra i gotta pay

hopefully some people can give some good feedback

wtf??? microsoft encarta and that other shit? what for?

anyway, if you own good monitors/headphones yes, you can get a better soundcard, if not you can stick with the onboard one. an extra 512 of RAM would help too.

You're wasting your money on that setup without a proper sound module. That should be at the top of your list.

512 MB of RAM is also pretty skimpy for a new PC. Not the place to cut corners. Tell them to throw out the bundled software and give you some more memory instead.

throw out the Microsoft Works, the floppy disk and the CD-rom..

512 MB RAM, will keep u safe if u arent planning to use the PC for nothing else than music production, but when u start installing other applications and connecting to the internet it will come short..

its definitely recommended with 1024 RAM

the setup you have is fine....but....yf your gonna be using samplers and vsti then 1GB memory is a must.

For £65 pounds you can pick an M-Audio 2496 ASIO card.

Ditch the XP Home too and put Pro or 2003 on it.

Mind you, I just noticed in the first post that this is a Presario... dude, that is just about THE WORST line of computers in existence. If you absolutely must buy a piece of crap like that, make sure that the first thing you do is format, because they come preloaded with a metric fucktonne of spyware and adware that's impossible to remove with Spybot & the like.

Seriously dude, don't buy that. If you're going to buy from Compaq/Dell/HP/eMachines or any of those other mass market retailers, buy from their business model lines, not their home/consumer lines. I know it looks cheap but that's because they cut corners everywhere... in reality you're actually paying more for the Compaq name and their advertising, the true value you're getting is about $500 less than what you'll pay.

Hi there..

How much is that system going to cost you? Build your own man... If you don't know how.. Ask some friends around, for sure someone you know knows how to build a computer. If not go to computer stores in your area and look for deals.. Don't buy a presario.. It's waste of your money..

And one more thing. There are places with refurbished computer components, that are like new and cost half the price, and you could build a faster machine for cheap. For the place you live inn, you put NYC brooklyn,. If that's the place, You can find some cheap deals there. and I mean cheap and good...

yea honestly, as Diginut said..that really is a piece of crap and nothing close to "music production pc" no offense at all, but if you plan to use your pc as the heart of your production studio, AT LEAST double - literally those specs in order to have a desent machine.
with those specs, you can expect crashing after running even less than 10 serious plugins on your tracks

yeah, build ur own man, best advice.. that way u can configure as u want, and its not hard to put together a computer, everything is set for u to do so.. but ur still better of asking someone who knows how to look at it first..
