use your laptop to record?

I have a computer with an integrated sound card. Im going to have to kind of rig stuff with ground loop isolators and what not in order to even possibly record on it. Anyways, I was thinking maybe just sell the PC and buy a laptop?

Do you guys record on laptops? I was told that all laptops have integrated sound cards. And, well, I can't find a laptop that has a soundcard.

What laptop recommendations do you guys have?

Yes laptops all have intergrated soundcards...they have mostly integrated everything since there is no standard form factor. Now, you can buy an external soundcard for it, i heard either echo or m-audio make good external cards...more posts should come shortly

If you have a line in on your laptop, then you should be able to record through there.

now then this pic here shows the back of it...

so im assuming you would use the RCA input jacks to plug into your mixer. then you would use a usb cord to attach the external soundcard to the laptop?

Its the Numark DM950. It came with the Numark battle pack that I bought. It is only 2 band but the main problem is it only has one master out! So I'm in the market for another mixer as you can see in my other thread here in this forum. I bought the battle pack to make sure I was really going to learn and make sure it was right for me. So now Im ready for upgrades!

nope. the only out I have is being used to go to my speakers.

Each of my channels has a line out set and a phono out set. Im using the phono out sets to go to my turntables. What is the extra line out set used for?

ok I found a back picture of it, yea only one output..weird

You mean phono In's (inputs), since the turntables are sending sound to the mixer. The line's are for digital information, such as cd players or laptops would be hooked up in the line ins.

Yea to record this maybe get a spliter for the rca cables so you can record and monitor.

ya but its prolly time for a 3 band mixer anyways. plus more splitters means more distortion and extra bs static sound i am sure.

I am going to try and record on my intergrated card when I get the new mixer and just see what happens and what kind of sound quality I get. But im not hoping for much.

So...i would use phono ins on my mixer if I wanted to incorporate scratch live or if I wanted to hook up a cdj?
