Why so many aliases?

I don't really understand this. When a producer starts to get famous, he sometimes changes his alias. Examples would be Jonas Steur to Estuera and maybe Airwave to Lolo, etc. I know hardcore edm fans would know the different aliases and relate them to the same person (ie. Moonman = Ferry, Push = M.I.K.E), but in regards to the edm noob, it seems like changing aliases would be a bad idea...as they seem to ditch the very name that they made successful. So does anyone have an explanation for this? I mean, not everyone knows that Perptetous Dreamer = Armin or Sam Sharp = Purple Haze = Sandler = Sander van Doorn, etc.

Simply put:
different aliases incorporate different styles of music

legal issues apply in some cases too... some labels require exclusivity on an artist name

but more often than not it's purely a creative thing, different guises for different styles

Yeh it's pretty much a different name for different style of music... and the label/licence thing

This examples pretty simple

Above and Beyond
Oceanlab is Above and Beyond with Justine Suissa and is used for the 'bubblier' or more 'oceanic' tracks
Tranquility Base is there alias for a more melodic or proggier REALLY fluffy sound
Dirt Devils is there more tough club sound...

When M.I.K.E was here we asked him how many aliases he actually had... he just laughed and said too many...

Three major reasons:

1. Contractual reasons with labels.

2. To allow for various styles of music.

3. To avoid oversaturation of the market.
