Controlling external gear through Ableton

Hey guys... I'm SOOOO close to getting this. I thought I had everything setup up correctly, but there must be something I'm overlooking. Lemme explain what I'm trying to do.

I've got some Waldorf gear I'm looking to control using Ableton. I've got a midi keyboard connected to my MIDI IN on my sound card. This keyboard works just fine to control VSTs and other functions within the software. I've connected my gear to the MIDI OUT on my sound card. I've also configured my MIDI settings to REC'V/SEND through the correct MIDI lines within Ableton.

On my gear, I've set it to recieve signals remotely, set the device ID, and the channel it should read from.

In the MIDI Track in Ableton I've set it to read MIDI from my keyboard (which works just fine), and to send MIDI OUT via my MIDI OUT on my sound card... to the same channel I have it set on my gear.

My gear isn't receiving the signal at all.......... Has anyone done this before and might be able to point me in the direction of something I'm overlooking? I'm so close I can taste it.... I KNOW there's something small I'm missing.... Any tips or tricks?

I'll also mention I've had this working with Cubase, so I know my gear settings are correct... and I know Cubase is probably better for external gear, but I'd also like the option of using it through Ableton without having both hosts running.

I'm going to recommend you check out the Ableton forums... A massive amount of information about Live can be found there. Good luck with resolving your problems.

If you are using Ableton 5 make sure you have also under the options set the MIDI output "Track" to "On" for your MIDI out device(It must be on for your input device if you are recieving the signal). Also Monitor should be set to "In" on the MIDI track you are trying to hear.

you have to press the "monitor" button which is the red/circle-ish looking button next to the solo button.
