Use CDex.

http://www.download.com/CDex/3000-2140-10226370.html

You can rip music as WAV, MP3, OGG Vorbis, etc.

You can convert a WAV format to compressed (mp3)

and convert MP3 format to wav.

damn CDex is good, but it puts a tiny bit of empty space at the end of each file, making it no good for mix cd's

bah... if you want good quality mp3s, then use a GUI for LAME

eac - exact Audio Copy awesome CD ripper and you can drag and drop wav's into it.

LAME Ain't an MP3 Encoder the BEST free mp3 encoder you can use

or you could use SCMPX1.5 which is the second runner to lame and has a good batch encoding system.

anything less is just trash

ok..here's what you do

Here's an alternative...

(it is very tedious, but it will work)

First of all make the mp3 file with CDex,

2) then download Audacity:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

3) Next, open audacity, and click File->Open->XXXXXXXXXXX.WAV (XX=whatever the file is)

4) Now go to the part where the blank space is bothering you. Select it (click and hold over that part) and then click CTRL-X to cut that part out.

5)Now you can export as WAV again and then reconvert this new WAV file using CDex. (In Audacity->File->Export as WAV->then save it).

NOW IF YOU WANT TO EXPORT AS MP3 directly from AUDACITY (*not recommended because it TAKES A LOOOOONG TIME and the quality is not that great*), you can do the following additional optional steps.

1) Download the LAME.dll encoder file
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/d....shtml?lame_enc

2) Then click File->Export as MP3->Name it whatever u want.
It will prompt you to locate the LAME file. All you have to do is find the LAME file you downloaded (save it in My Documents for easy access) and click on it in the little dialog box that came up.

Now it will export the file as MP3.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you just export as WAV and convert to MP3 with CDex. It will actually be faster than doing direct mp3 from audacity, and the quality will be MUCH MUCH better. (I think if you encode as MP3 directly from Audacity, the setting is at a measely 128kbs. I don't know if you can change it. In CDex you can change it, and I preffer 196kbps if you have the space, and if you have a lot of space I reccomend even higher).

Unfortunately I am not yet a DJ but I do know about computers, so take my advice however you want. I hope it helps, and make some great music!

wow thanks a lot for all the help guys. i'm gonna try some more stuff tomorrrow, i'm beginning to think it might have something to do with the codec, because the mp3 files are the same exact length in time of the wav, but when i burn to cd (And of course took out the 2 second pause) there's a split second gap when the track changes, but if i burn it with the original wav files, it's fine. so weird. thanks again guys, i'll letcha know what happens, i'm just trying to archive a ton of old mixes, and organize everything better.
