Saturday December 3rd @ 99 Sudbury
TORONTO
KICK MAGAZINE WELCOMES
Trackmaster Lou (Scan 7) and BJ Williams (AUX 88/Posatronix) and to launch their new Detroit label in Toronto. The Suburban Knight, James Pennington headlines at 99 Sudbury...
James Pennington a.k.a. Suburban Knight
A crucial figure on the outskirts of Detroit techno since the mid '80s, Pennington's recordings as the Suburban Knight pioneered the moodier side of the Motor City. It was through his connection with Derrick May that he began recording classics like "The Art of Stalking" and "The Groove." He also collaborated on the biggest hit to come out of Detroit, "Big Fun" by Inner City.
With the rise of Detroit's second wave in the early '90s, Pennington became a mentor for Mike Banks and the Underground Resistance crew. With UR, he released the singles "Nocturbulous Behavior" and "Dark Energy." He is also featured on the Submerge label compilation Depth Charge, Vol. 3, and produced tracks for Underground Resistance's 1998 full-length–'Interstellar Fugitive'. James' Debut album 'My Sol Direction' was released to critical acclaim including both classics and new, unreleased productions.
Kick Magazine is honoured that the Suburban Knight celebrates with us the launch of the newest label out of Detroit –Scan 7’s Cratesavers Musik–and it’s first signed artist Arthur Oskan.
