ATB @ compound review 12/3/05
I expected more.
This was my first time for Compound and first time for ATB.
Compound seems like an exciting alternative venue to eleven 50. It's spacious and lavish interior/outside seemed thoughtfully planned and well maintained. The club had some unfortunate problems with plumbing and dripping AC Saturday nite though. However, the issues did not really detract from the overall experience.
The warm-up dj/s did a good job, they had decent energy and really got the crowd really going a few times with some tactful track selection. Finally around 12, it was ATB's turn. Like many, I was familiar with ATB's production work but had never seen him perform. The performance was on many accounts... disapointing.
The track selection was consistently inconsistent; After a succesful run, ATB would kill the energy with mediocre track selection leaving the crowd to wonder if another DJ had been switched in. Sadly, this wasn't the case. Furthermore, ATB left no chance for last minute redemption as he talked over his last tracks. At the end of the set, I started a chant for ATB that grew among the crowd. With one last oppurtunity to end on a good note with a possible encore track, ATB did not fail to disapoint. Sub-par set.
ATB's first appearance in Atlanta didn't really leave me wanting for a second. Some producers DJ... and some DJs produce. Perhaps ATB belongs in the studio.
