Looking for a mentor (must have FL Studio)

I'm looking for a mentor who is willing to help me take my skills to the next level, especially in the area of effects, compression and percussion. I feel like I'm stuck in a rut. All though I have come a long way since I started, I feel I could really benefit by having a mentor. I have FL Studio and VSTs. I like Melodic style trance.

I have been producing for about 2 years. Here is a link to my latest song so you can see where I'm at and if you will be able to help.
Resonant Dreams

Thanks so much for considering this.

-Heather

If you are really serious then I suggest moving over to Pro Tools, Cubase or Logic. FL just wont cut it. You dont need a mentor. Just browse the forums and post questions when stuck.

Uh - It doesn't matter what sequencer you use. If you produce complete shit in FL, you'll produce complete shit in Cubase. What matters is your talent, knowledge and artistic vision. I don't like Cubase and I don't like Macintosh so Logic is out. I know how to use Reason but the lack of VST support and all the wires turn me off. I don't need suggestions on changing apps. I would like to work with someone. Thanks.

I totally agree, that advice was prolly one of the most stupidest i ever heard lol
Only advice i can give you tho, keep at it,after all practice makes perfect, and you can't expect to be the greatest ever in just a short period of time (and yes i would say 2 years is pretty short)

prolly not the best advice ever too,but there just isn't an easy way to learn things

DI.FM, and, more importantly, ETN.FM are my mentors. I believe if you listen to enough trance your production will benefit. Seriously. And no, it doesn't matter what sequencer you use, but I personally feel like it's easier to do a lot of things in Cubase.

Hey Heather ar

I didnt mean to upset you with the first reply. In my opinion FL suck
holy balls. I most cases you can hear when something has been done in
FL. That is only MY opinion. Everybody has one, right?

And to the rest of the peanut gallery in this post - Why do my opinions get shot down? If it doest matter what sequencer you use why do pro producers use Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Reason, huh?

Anyway, I listened to you track and i does nt sound that bad. I personally dont believe in mentors cause they enforce a specific style onto your music.

Peace

Sangel

That is essentially what this forum is for - I'm sure if that you have a look at all the various tutorials and other threads posted here you will acquire some useful information.

You're not going to like this answer, but unfortunately you really do have to pick up the art yourself. You might learn a few tips and tricks and other useful pieces of information, but it takes a long time to develop a solid style and workflow and nobody else can tell you how to do it because it's personalized to *you*.

On an aside, I find it odd how on the one hand you say that sequencer preference doesn't matter (which I agree with) but on the other hand you only want to talk to Fruityloops users. The concepts are the same in any sequencer, they're just implemented differently; if you're fairly experienced in your particular software of choice then you should have no trouble translating concepts into implementation.

Anyway, good luck.

Pollock had to learn to paint landscapes before he could dribble paint, my friend. A mentor is a perfectly good thing to have.
