kick variation?

My Kick sometimes drives right over the tone of the song. besides dropping a hit out what can be done so the beat doesn't sound so techno 4/4 sterile. Do people quantize the hits off beat to set up a pattern or what?

Just shuffle it a bit every now and then. Not really rocket science.

Trie varying other stuff, like the percs. Or add a BD on the last 1/8th and/or 1/16th of a bar once in a while. Or do something whacky now and again with 1/3ds on the last bar.

For effects you could put the BD through an attacked filter or something like that. All in all I haven't heard that many tracks that vary the overall tone of the BD very much. Except that they can be put through a filter of some kind as a buildup or breakdown.

It's often quite a nice sound when you put a BD and a bassline through the same 0-attack compressor.

other than that, I'v no idea,

Charlie Darwin

Review Latest Track; Charlie Delta - Then The Days Where Long

Music is as universal to people as breathing. We've probably been at it since before we even started talking. Immaging two cavemen smashing away at a peace of flint to make a spearhead. It wouldn't take long for them to learn te synchronise the sound. And there you have it, the words first percussive band.

Music has survived wars, famines, the plague and many other things and has evolved with man across many cultures. Dance music is just the next step in the evolutionary chain. My guess is that it will probably be with us untill we are extinced.
