Don't know what the problem is

Hi, I've had my decks for 1 year, got them last christmas. They are numark tt1625's. I bought them 2nd hand from e-bay.

I still can't beatmatch properly and i'm starting to wonder if it is the decks since they were 2nd hand when i bought them last year.

When i'm trying to to beatmatch, i.e finding the right pitch i can get it pretty close. If i think the tracks are beatmatched i do a test and just play each record in time and see how long it takes them to get out of sync. I'm usually happy with the result and it takes fairly long for them to get out of sync, which also means i can beatmatch, yeah?

Now when record 1 starts to get to the end of it's track, i cue record 2 up and let it play. I slowly do the transition and everythings going all right. But here's the problem; all of a sudden the records drift rapidly. Why's this? I was beatmatching them earlier when record 1 was playing and i got it nearly prefect. What went wrong? Why are the records drifting rapidly like this? They were perfect when i tested them.

I'm starting to think it is my decks. Since i have had them along time and they were 2nd hand when i bought them. What do u think?

Cheers
Chris

Hmm.. the 1625's aren't exactly known for their reliability as far as I know.. Buying them second hand doesn't really help either. Have you asked the seller what the reason for him selling the TTs was?

The fact that they're sold (new) in battle packs together with a cheap ass mixer for under 250 quid should also be an indicator for them being lesser quality TTs.

So, I'd say it's your TTs having a technical problem. As for a solution, I don't know (apart from the obvious: buy new ones).

Yes i will buy some more decks soon. I think it is the decks because i can beatmatch, then when it comes to cueing the records up correctly, they start to drift. So i'm pretty sure it's the decks because they are perfect when i test them.

That's the deal with inexpensive decks, unfortunately. I had TT-200's and had the same issues, you have it beatmatched nicely, you cue it up and then it all goes to hell.

Truth is, this still happens with Technics, just much less. TT's are mechanical devices and their rotational speed can be affected by many different factors.

If you learn to ride the pitch with your 1625's and can mix pretty well with them, when you get Technics you'll be an expert!

lol, that's good then. Yes that's exactly what happens, beatmatching is nice and smooth when im trying to find the pitch then when it coems to cueing up and blending the 2 records together it all gets messed up
