Would appreciate some advice from an experienced host/hostess

I am planning on setting up a rave in a friend's basement in a few months. I will be the DJ

This will be kicking it old school, with hardly any light, lots of drugs/alcohol, loud music, then followed by sex in crazy places.

I am 18, and that means if the cops bust the rave I am definately royally fucked. Anyone host a rave before? How do I go about not getting caught. I would like it if people from the states give me advice, because everyone knows how people, and the law in the US view raves. I could always go even FURTHER back to OLD OLD school, and find an abandoned warehouse, but thats hard to come by.

I would also enjoy some good stories

As this is your friends basement, I imagine people live nearby. How close are the neighbors? They will be the most likely to call the cops if the noise can be heard in their homes, or even by stepping out on their porch.

The key thing is to minimize the number of people going in and out. When a port to the outside world is opened, sound will escape; keeping this to a low number will decrease that chance that someone nearby will call the cops.

Rule #2 is do NOT give the location of the party until the day of. This means to anyone from your girlfriend to that hot chick who's legs you want to see bent behind her head. The sooner a partys time and place are in the public domain, the more of a chance thats the cops will get a whif of it. If minors and drugs are involved, expect them to be at the party before 10 o clock. And dont post the damned party publically on the internet!

Don't get fucked up until later. The temptation will be great. Drugs and alcohol will flow like the Nile. But if you want to be smart, don't use drugs before 1030 or 11. If the cops haven't shown by this point, theyre not going to, unless some shit like a fight, vandalism, overdose, or general teenage prankery takes place. There will be plenty of time to be fucked up and with friends for the rest of the night. If the cops come and you're drunk, or rolling balls your parents will get called or youll go to prison.

If the cops come, just play it straight. Say your friend asked you to spin for a few of his friends and a bunch of people just started coming in. if they ask, tell them you felt obligated to stay. if you're not fucked up, they will often let you off with a warning.

Alright. Well to answer the neighbor question.

All the houses are about 20 feet apart from each other. One on the left of his house. One on the right. One in the back, and one across the street.

I was thinking, that maybe I will have it early. Like 8pm? Because there is a "Noise curfew" at 11pm. And I already had the idea of not making the rave public until the actual day, thanks for mentioning it though. And I would never post about the rave over the internet, because I would have to post an address and stuff, which is dangerous.

I was also thinking about telling the cops before hand? Because I heard if I get a permit of some sort, I could basically block a whole street and have the rave outside, lol.

But i want to have it indoors, it's gonan be cold outside!

Most states have passed laws restircting the kind of outdoor party youre talking about. Even if you could get a permit (which would probably cost in the thousands), you would have had to start filing paper work at least a month and closer to six ago.

Keep it small and you should have no problems. The music doesn't have to be absurdly loud for it to be a good party. If you can hear it 3/4 of the way between the party house and the neighbors, its probably too loud. Party smart and live to party another day.

it also depends where you live. Are you neighbors quite? When i threw parties it really didn't matter since everybody threw parties. If you have to talk to the neighbors first. This way it's better to know if its a go or no go. Tell them that's only a one time thing, and if for some reason there is a mess you will clean it up. By all damn means CLEAN UP THE NEXT DAY!!!. Yes there will be a mess. It took me about 5 hours of clean up each time. If they say no, better not do it. You will know for sure that they will call the cops.

When i threw my parties the cops did stop by. They didn't go inside though. Cops in my area were pretty cool, your town may not be.

ohh.. and isn't Marc Summers the guy from Double Dare? Awesome show.. i miss it

i think 3 of my friend's dads are on the police force. I think I actually can pull this off. I never thought about getting hooked up like that, thanks for mentioning 'nice cops'.
