AV Setups

does ne1 here have descent AV setups that they have all of their gear hooked up to ?

I mean I wanna eventually have my computer, a/v receiver, speakers and woofer, dvd player, dex, mixer and tv all hooked up somehow - for fux sake don't ask me how, it's just a pipedream at the mo.

where do ppl get all of their gear from like wot I wrote about above here ?

Well, basicially I think you're going to have to have everything plugged into your amp, which kinda limits the amount of auxilliary devices you're going to be able to hook it up to.

I think that my (or rather, my dad's) amp can have three different devices plugged into it at once (tape/radio, cd player, turntable), although, obviously, it can only play one of these devices simulataneously.

So, I guess the question is, is there some way of unifying everything (tv/cdplayer/computer etc.) to use the same amp - and thus the same set of speakers - without just plugging them all into the back?

Sorry, if I'm not making sense here, it's because I'm still a little hung over.....

Oh, and BJeT, I would have thought that the purchase of a "double male" cord could solve that problem you have there quite simply and cheaply, so long as you can be arsed moving the cord whenever you want to switch between devices. Just plug one end into the "line out" hole of the device (i.e. your decks or whatever) and the other into the "line in" hole on your comp.

Or have you already thought of that and I'm just wasting your time?

nah it's all good, I ain't thought of nethang just yet cause as I sed it is just a pipe dream at the mo

I think what I will end up doing is keep the amp I have at the mo plugged in2 my computer along with the external Monitor Audio bookshelf speakers and leave that setup as is. When I get a G4/G5 desktop PowerMac next year I will prolly add an iSub also.

As far as the a/v receiver connected to a DVD player, tv, turntables and floor standing speakers goes I reckon a pretty descent receiver should be able to handle it all no probs and without having to pull out and plug in cables whenever you wanna change inputs.

we'll see

ne other idea r most welcome and appreciated

wot setup have u got at the mo and have u got ur own dex ?

Cheers

Hello!

Its so simple i can't believe you couldn't think of it!!
Go and visit Dick Smith or Jaycar electronics for those AV switcher boxes they're selling. That way you have more inputs to you AMP and stuff. On my part, i'm gonna build my own AV switch box with a remote controller soon i'm getting pissed of with that cables and stuff hanging around...

Be Cool!

Or you could get a multi channel desk/Mixer and pipe everything through this....you can get a front mounting sound card with rca port/infroa red input output etc.

I use this through my mixing desk so i can channel everything through my amp. Plus i have a second sound card so i acan mix mp3 on my pc as well as on my dex and cd/dex so i have multi input all streaming through this and if i wish to can burn straight to cd the end product.
