young kids i feel have always been apart of the scene, not only exclusive to trance. i've come to accept and acknowledge that. my main observation is that there seems to be a large influx of mature-aged (35+) patrons now frequenting clubs/raves/boys toilets. also i think the scene isnt as exclusive as it used to be, now everyone is doing it. of course im lookin through my eyes which are nearing the end of their clubbing tenure but i honestly dont think things will ever be the same again. and not just for me.

edit: i just realised my comments can be applied to the clubbing scene as a whole, not just trance.

Agreed with Jizza. I don't see the genre to be 'over' as you put it Scott. Many people talk about how they're bringing back trance because it's a dying breed. That's not true.. electronic music in general is so new, compared to rock and roll which has been around for ions and is still going strong.

What would be nice is if the stigma between drugs and the scene wasnt there.. so that every noob who joins the scene doesn't get all high as a kite and doesnt realise what it is theyre doing in such a special atmosphere in the first place. But that will never change =P. The mainstream of it all is really sinking in and as Jizza said there's no exclusivety and that's only going to worsen over time.

Hmmmm I think that trance is definitely not dead, just in hibernation. I honestly think that Australian trance will become a major player in the trance scene in the next five to ten years. But I dont think this will happen automatically, work needs to be done to achieve this. I feel that Australia needs to develop its own unique brand of trance, like Dutch trance which brought Holland to the forefront of the scene and not just follow the European styles. There are alot of up and coming Australian producers and DJ's that are looking to expand Australian trance, and hopefully it will work only time will tell.

In my honest opinion I think house is something that is more a flavour of the month thing than something that will stay around and become a stable part of EDM. I see house as more mainstream and lets face it mainstream music changes in the blink of an eye. I could be wrong and have a biast opinion because I am not a fan of house music but that is just the way I see it.

One of the problems I see with Australian trance at the moment, is that to really get recognised a producer/dj must travel to Europe to make the big time internationally. I may be wrong with this one, but that is just the way I see the situation.

Also trance in Australia is now playing second fiddle to house, hard trance, hard style amd commercial rnb and dance in the majority of clubs. This is not the case everywhere but it is definitely there. What baffles me with this is the following; the big events like two tribes and gods kitchen have the main stage devoted to trance, which clearly suggests to me that trance still has a pulse in Australia. Now generally the main stage is taken up by international acts, Steve Strangis has been getting main stage action and hopefully in time we will see big events in Australia that are predominately headlined by locals, with maybe a couple of international acts.

1. No. There will never be an Australian trance DJ who reaches "superstar" () status as compared to the dutch trance DJs.

2. I think it's possible but this person must be a very good dj and producer. Just look at all the international "DJs" who've gotten where they are on the back of their productions, most of them can't structure a set!

3. I think Australia could produce an international club brand but it would have to branch out in Asia before it would be possible to establish itself amongst the heavyweights in Europe. Are Future still doing Two Tribes in Bali?

4. No. At least not anytime soon. Psy trance is healthy atm tho

5. I hope it continues towards prog and tech because melodic just sounds all the same here are two recent posts of mine on trancetribe from a similar thread:

No way! There is so much good House out there other than your normal handbag variety; the genre is huge! The following (for non handbag variety) is generally older whom have been exposed to more genres over their clubbing years also

Things have to change for trance to grow in this country.

a. The definition of trance music has to be broadend.
Trance tends to be pigeonholed by the general public AND by people 'in the know' too much. Yes the general public sees trance as either lasgo or yakooza stuff, and yes this is a problem - but then another problem i also see is that us, the so called trance elite tend to pigeon hole trance to a point that makes trance, well, boring.

Blaring synths all night will not capture a nations imagination.


b. Australia needs to find its own trance sound.
The locals producers are starting to get good at this stuff - but it all sounds too dutch. This isnt gunna be the sound that grips a nation - im sorry to tell you all this. Listen to some UK stuff, or some US stuff or some Swede stuff etc. Australia and Holland are very different countries - the dutch sound wont werk here.

c. There needs to be an 'Australian face' for trance.
Omgz i say this every night before bed - Australia needs a trance Kid Kenobi.
Postion description; Wanted - 1 dj to play trance. Must be experienced, good with people and looking to produce (remixes may do). Must have skills and be able to mash it up (play some house, electro, psy and tech.). Must have personality.

Must not be scared to play occasional cheese.

d. The club brand thing.
Yeah im pretty sure this will happen. Its already happend for house and hard stuff - and its probably only a matter of time. The trancetribe guys up in sydney and obsession down here seem to be hard at werk trying to make this happen and if the above 3 steps are taken into consideration im pretty confident that by 2010 there will be a strong club brand going.

e. Superstarz
Superstars come along and they are differnt to what is going on in their town. This is what makes them superstarz. Yes they'll have to travel overseas to go from quite big to fully blown - but even djs from england have to leave the country to get big internationally.

So all in all there are my thoughts..i try and keep my thoughts positive or ill spiral into a deep deep depression - but on the whole yeah, its not too bleak :/

i agree with tathi re the generic sound of most uplifting trance at the minute though. if it continues this way then we wont care what happened to trance coz none of us will like it anymore. thankfully theres always a few decent tracks to make it worth the search.
