Frooty loops,Tracktor or what?

what would be the best computer software to start learning how ot DJ and software for producing your own music

Ive heard from only a couple of people that either Fruity Loop or Tracktor would be very good. Ive also heard that FL studio would be good for production. I posted in the wrong forum though. What would be the best software to get and on top of that would i need anything else to get started (im not talking equipment)

Well to get started both traktor ( for mixing ) and frutty loops (for producing) are good, your never going to be able to do anything other then fool around on them but it will give you the gerneral points behind the arts

to get started on production the only thing you need is fl studio 5.0. you will however want some better soft synths than the ones that come bundled with fruity.

i recommend for starters that you get reFX vanguard (it only costs 50 quid and it sounds great), greenoak crystal (free), steinberg VB-1 (for basses, also free), SC-101 (for basses again, free), seeq one (for acid! again free).

all that free stuff you can pick up at www.kvraudio.com.

you get some drum samples and loops with fruity but you'll want some better ones.

i recommend going to www.meanbeat.co.uk and clearing them out. its all free.

run a search in the production forum for bren f samples. get those. they are decent and also free. then do a google search for doru malaia and clear out all of the free sample packs. all of them are amazing.

that is seriously enough to get you started and more than a bit overwhelmed for the next year or so. and good luck if you choose to continue it.

you do not need a dedicated hardware or production grade soundcard. you do not need a midi keyboard (you can use your typing keyboard in fruity to play notes or you can do it click the notes into the piano roll). you will however want your PC to be very fast and your HD to be very big cuz running lots of vanguards with high polyphony and effects on them will really crush your PC. and all the samples you will make and songs you will render will fill up your HD quick.

Not true... Traktor is the software used by FS and Fruity Loops is used by plenty of pro's.
Admittedly you do need VST's with fruity and Decks if you are going to start using FS but they are serious pro tools in their own right.

Cheers

yes! how could i forget this?! awesome freebie synth. makes some quite convincing underworld type saw leads.

serious-sounds is also a good resource cuz bamford and co make alot of quality tuts. however the boards seem really inactive. generoproject.com is somewhat more active and theres alot of cool free sample packs and ts404 patches as well as a very useful tutorials section and a helpful forum.
