Grilled for liking EDM?

Just curious as to wether anyone else is at the recieving end of abuse when they say they like EDM? Because it seems that the only type of music which is 'legal' at my college is Punk, Rock, Emo and all that type of stuff, which ain't my thing but I don't really go around slagging it off if you know what I mean? Just curious that's all.

I once got a hand chopped off on a trip to the Mid East for listening to EDM. Well, either listening to EDM or stealing that pack of bubblelicious from the store/gas station, which are all owned and operated by white people, strangely enough.

I'm just kidding, i've never been to the Mid East.

But I do take some abuse for listening to EDM. Their abuse only makes me stronger. In a few months i'll be strong enough to deflect meteors from an earth-colliding path by blowing in their general direction and make tall women cum in a single thrust.

That is quite true the more people talk crap about it the more it makes me listen, but it just does my head in the way that just because I'm not one of these lame ass rock 'dudes' and copying anyone else, you become a outcast or some shit.

yeah, i've been made fun of fo' sho' - only here in canada though...
people are surprised that i actually admit to listening to this! hahaha!

well all i can say is that most people who listen to EDM have already listened to all that other stuff and have grown out of a lot of it, so really, we're much more intelectually advanced (or brain dead, what ever your spin on it may be )....

oh the comedy...

I get teased for sure by friends... nothing harsh tho. People are pretty ignorant about "techno" (as you have to refer to it for them to know what you're talking about) here.

I was listening too Rap 5 years ago and wasn't a very big fan of Trance and the other EDM styles, but I did listen too some producers back then, not many though.

Anyways, alot of people started listening to rap and I felt like I had too do a change because I didn't really enjoy it anymore. Alot of people started listening too rap when I stopped listening too it.

I decided I wanted something that I enjoyed alot more than those losers who just wanted to fuck around and show themselves in fancy cars and all that shite..

I started listening too Trance and I loved it now, When people finally realized that I stopped listening too Rap they started too ask me what I'm into. I just answered Trance, they had to make a unnecessary comments about it.

But I didn't really care about what they said, I only answered what I thought about their style, and that everyone copies everyone.

Now, I've got one friend that I can share my musical taste with and that's one of my best friends, We've been friends for a very long time and we have common interests, that's probably why we like the same stuff.

I always find it the hardest to describe when i'm talking to girls.

Problem is i say trance, and automatically they assume it's hard core! I have to then explain that it's like dance music, but not as commercial (as the stuff they'd hear on the radio, well on the radio over here, in dublin.) And that it's more melodic etc, few female (sometimes male) vocals thrown in for good measure etc.

I dunno, i hate telling them about it without being able to show them an example.

And yes, i have gotten a few funny looks, quite often actually.

I'm known as the guy who likes trance/house etc, by many of my girl-friends and lads as well.

Oh well, i love it More then they love their music i'm guessing as well!

nelly

People try and go at me for it, but I tend to bury them in a snarled reply. Fuck it. People may say "that music is shit", but it's simply a case of "I think the music you play is shit, which is the joy of personal opinions. Now fuck off". Besides, I can usually find at least one record that people will latch on to.
