Dunno **Problems with Access Virus TI**

Hey everyone,

I just picked this up, its my first virus, and I gotta say, the sounds and everything really are just awesome.... BUT

I'm having problems with the vst part of the Virus called Virus Control. I installed all the newest updates, installed the software, and loaded up a patch. After I was done recording the part in my track. I decided to find another patch on my virus for my next channel. When I did this, immediately "virus control" told me that the audio, and usb connection was not communicating. Shortly after my sequencer (logic) shutdown. So i tried doing this in a new project with multiple channels and the same thing happened.

Secondly, while playing the recorded part back in logic, it sounds fine when that channel is cued, but once i click on a different channel in the arrange window the audio from the virus ti starts bugging out.

Seems like the virus ti's have some problems with the vst side of the equipment. I'm sure if i just use it through midi or audio, it'll be fine, but I really liked the possibility of connecting it through usb and controlling the vst instrument with my hardware. Just seems much easier that way. I've already e-mailed Access about it an hour or so ago, so hopefully I'll get a reply by tomorrow or the next couple days. I'll keep you guys posted on what I find out from, or if some of you guys have had the same problem let me know if you've fixed it etc.

Just thought this might be useful to some people who are considering getting this product. Also wondering if there's some other forums online which might be a better place to ask for help?? If anyone knows, post a response, thanks.

Hai Lee

The first of your troubles seems to be due to the fact that Virus TI works as a multipart VST synth, so you don't need to load any more instances per channel (you can't even do it). I remember that multichannel VSTi's on Logic were handled in a weird fashion (by means of aux channels or so).

The way Virus TI vst works is like that (I'm a Cubase user):
- Load ONE and ONLY ONE instance of your Virus VSTi.
- For every of your MIDI tracks, select the right MIDI channel (1-16) in which data will be sent to each part. You will be able to use up to 16 different patches simultaneously (one per part).
- That should be all needed to get Virus working adequately.

Freezing, rendering, delay compensation and host sync'ing are the main areas where Virus is not completely functional (a polite way to say they don't work yet). Anyhow be patient since it seems that people in Access are working on it (especially for Mac/Logic - forget PC/Logic) and releasing updates asap (after one year waiting I would expect a less buggy premiere but...).

I recommend you to use the Virus ASIO output (if you are not doing so yet), get your VST host up to date and even looking if any other of your available VST hosts performs better than Logic (or suffers from the same troubles).

Long live Access support team! (let's pray for their souls)

logic 7 virus template

This will assure you are setup correctly.
Then you should follow the steps that Access will give you.

Open the virus control I have saved in this template and replace it with yours in order for it to work. Its ONLY ONE INSTANCE. but you will see it in all 16 channels. then just select what channel you want to use and bam! Its really awesome and I'll be glad when they fix the timing problems too.

haha yea... i feel kinda stupid. access just sent me a similar response. i guess i just misunderstood how they portrayed it as a vst. this is what they replied:

Thank you for your mail. It is not possible to load several instances of the Virus TI Control PlugIn.
The PlugIn itself is a multitimbral PlugIn, since it already shows the up to 16 PARTs you can play. In
other words you need to create a Midi Multi instrument and connect it with the audio instrument
channel in the Logic environment, you loaded the Virus TI Control in, to be able to play the Virus TI
on several Midi Channels.
In other words you would need another TI hardware when opening a 2nd Virus TI Control instance.

shockwave, I have another question, thats probably kinda stupid.. but I was wondering if you could answer it.

I followed your directions and created a multi instrument. Then i changed my audio inst. 1-16 according to the midi channel. Now it seems to work, when i open up Access it loads up in all 16 channels and when i select a different channel, it loads up with a different instrument. everything seems to work fine. But when i play a note, the levels seem to go up in all 16 virus ti channels. I'm assuming because eventually depending on how many instruments i use from the virus, it adds up all the levels since its coming from the same place. Just wanted to double check to see if thats supposed to be happening.

You need to setup a multi-instrument in the midi enviroment then route that to the proper instrument track along with setting the outs puts of the plugin correctly, as i dont have a virus TI i cant give you anymore help than that...

LONG LIVE ANALOG!!!
PS i just got a pro one

Hi trancinchink

I'm a cubase user (and remember blurry those things concerning Logic schemes) and I do think that TI is as VSTi as other multiparts VSTi (Tera, PPG, Battery). The major drawback as a VSTi is no related to it being or not multi-instanceable but to its only 2 stereo outputs for 16 parts (I have read that Access has planned to add more outputs soon). At this moment Virus is only capable of outputting 2 stereo or 4 mono channels, and all from these 16 parts will have to be routed through one of them.

Regarding you said, it seems that you have created 16 outputs that receive audio from the same Virus output. Try to change the current USB output (in Virus Control -> Common) into the second stereo pair to see what happens.

Good luck!
