i just joined the digital revolution in buying a cdj200 for home use!

and im very happy with it..


i thought id get the 200 cos its a pioneer and i can get used to mixing more acurately when spinning cd's in clubs-as most of my new tracks are mp3 or cd. i looked at other cd players like numark and similar and they seem a lot cheaper than the cdj200. i paid £325 in a shop (not internet) because i dont wanna have to send it off if it goes wrong..(but before i asked them to pricematch the price it was labeled as £399)

why the bloody hell is it so expensive? sure parts are slightly better quality than in numarks etc but by how much? how can the buget model from pioneer be £325??!!! the thing doesnt do anything different to the cdj100 that was out eight years ago! and the 100 is £220 now! the only ifference is the aesthetics and the pitch has an extra .0 accuracy..

i mean a cdj1000 has cheaper components than in a 1210 from 20 years ago! but costs double thye price!

anyone have the same queries?

Cos if you think the 200 and the 100 are exactly tthe same, obviously you don't.

And how can you say whether a TT and a CDJ have different quality components? Especially since you have an imperial fuckload of different functions on a CDJ that aren't on a TT (hmmmm, a freakin laser being the most obvious).

And then, lets compare prices.
$900 for a Technics 1200 mk2, up to $1200 for a m5g
$1599 for a Pioneer CDJ-1000 mk2

And you save WAY more than 600-700 bucks on vinyl. And thats not taking into account the 150 bucks EACH for some Ortofon needles.


So really, when you take into account the prices of vinyl TTs, the fact that these are somewhat more complex and have god knows how many more features, CDJ's aren't so overpriced as you claim.

Umm, most CDJ's use what are essentially CD-ROM drives that can read in a track very fast into buffer memory. Considering you can buy a DVD *BURNER* for your PC for about $15, I don't think they are spending a ton on the mechanisms.

And the thing that really gets me about the CDJ's (even the 1000's), is that they are all plastic and cheap. They don't feel like pro audio gear to me, especially at the price they charge.

But they do work well, and people are willing to pay it... business is business, why would they decide to make LESS money just for the good of the customers?

Take a look at the Denon 3500, it cost hundreds less than the CDJ-1000's. It's all metal, feels like it's built like a tank, and it has a high tourque direct drive platter. It can play MP3's and has all sorts of other features.

As much as I love my CDJ-1000's, they are now overpriced in the market and are riding out their fame as the first "vinyl emulating cd turntable".

And as for you saying what I said is irrelevant, I don't think it is. If you look at the bigger picture its not that overpriced as you earn your money back pretty quickly. When you compare the prices of CDJs to TTs, they aren't that overpriced.


If you had said that DJ equipment in general is overpriced, I would probably agree with you. But singling out CDJs, I don't as when you compare it to other DJ equipment, it is of comparable price

If they spend the money on the production actually making a solid product they would have less money to spend on the promotion and nobody would want one.

face it, that's the price you have to pay to get what you want.

pioneer likes to charge for their name, like a lot of other companies do.

but that's the price i had to pay to get something i would be happy with.

im assuming all the pioneer cdj's play mp3's?

also on CD-RW's...how many times can you rewrite?

I'm 90% sure that the CDJ200 is the only CDJ that can play mp3's. But i'm not completely familiary with the whole range of them, so i'm sure someone can either back me up or correct me

all that money for a 1000 and you cant even play an mp3? If I buy an old Quicksilver cd and try to rip the tracks off of it...what format are those tracks going to be in?
