Starting Out...Please help me out

So ive been listining to EDM for over 10 years. I was always intrigued by creating your own music+ dj'ing. Ive been playing around with different programs, so i kinda know the basics of what to do. Since now i can afford some hardware, i would like to purchase some stuff.

I would like to get some basic stuff(nothign to expensive)

What would you recommend me.....like synths, speakers, software, good sound card, drummachines...etc...

I like the DJing part also, but i dont feel like shelling out 1k on a mixer...I would love to go the Record way of mixing, but CD's are just more available and you can always burn music....

My computer is pretty decent (AMD 64 3000+, 1.5 gigs...etc built it myself)and i can always get a new hard drive

Now i got some cash to spend(around $600) and then around $2500 credit. I dont want to spend it all...All i want is something decent to be able to create my own tracks....

Guys, please help me out. I always loved music and i want to take it a step further.....Thank you.

i guess you dont have monitors etc... youll need a good soundcard look at the m-audio's or RME's which are better but also expencive.. depends.

a midi keyboard or a synth. evolution midi keyboards are nice, but you could get a cheap synth (like jp8000) for 500 on ebay and use it as a synth and midi keyboard.

youll need monitor speakers, alesis mk1 active mk2 are pretty standard in the 300$ category. but youll have to listen for your self. maybe a pair of headphones too.

DAW and plugins.

lots of time.

lots of reading/listening/learning

passion.

good luck (Y)

you dont really need all that but its the basic setup thats gonna make your life alot easier. just start out with ftuity or anything and a midi keyboard.. you are not going to be able to sound pro the first year(s) anyway.

go by heart if you know what i mean.

synth is way better and more expensive, but a midi keyboard can do the job with a native instrument FM7 software for example

actually its not better, it just has a sound generator inside.. a midi keyboard will send note signals to your computer or synth. but a synth will be able to make sound AND send midi signal to the device its connected.

imo a h/w synth is no better than a vst but, if you are looking for a something you know and like (a tb303 acid bass for example) you can get the synth that can make this sound. a tb303 in this case. every synth has an osc with square/saw and a lp filter with resonance but none can sound like a tb. its about character. oh lol the tb303 is old.. no midi

It is really all you need, and if you get the bug, which you probably will, you can shell out for more gear later, and you probably won't need to use the credit card... just wait a couple of weeks if you don't already have enough.

I don't really see any difference in working with hardware as opposed to software apart from the working methods...

Look at the "getting started" links in the tutorials sticky - they pretty much answer all of the questions you've asked in this thread.
