I came to dance.
After a refreshing journey to The Docks Entertainment Complex, and some awkward waiting to enter the 19+ area, I had finally indulged in a little alcohol. I believe it was OS/2 pounding out some trance classics in the tides room. Not bad.
Countdown happened 15 minutes of me getting my first drink. I was bippin' and I was boppin', but I just couldn't stop thinking about the breaks. So I whipped out my handwritten DJ set list and saw that guy "D-MONIC" in the Liberation Lounge. I got in there after walking through the junglist room. My dancing was so extreme I had to remain in the back of the Liberation Lounge so people wouldn’t get kicked. Good idea on my part. This must have gone on for about an hour.
Then I realized the main room probably has easier music to dance to by now (4-4 drum beats, ala house and trance). I went in, and I was correct. So I`m just grooving to some house, not realizing who the DJ is, and my buddy Jeff comes outta nowhere to greet me.
"Sean – are you enjoying Jelo?"
Holy shit - it was Jelo! That was a vibrant set of house. So I started dancing with Jeffs group. Then Dumonde comes on. They are the only trance DJs that I know of who MCs over their DJ sets. They’d get on the mic and say something like "Want to hear more DUMONDE tunes?" or "AH YES WE ARE FROM GERMANY!!!" (Ok...I made the second part up). Bogdan - sorry to see you were injured just before Dumonde went on. Sad! Of course, Dumonde delivered a crowd pleasing performance and encored with New Order - Blue Monday (Dumonde Remix).
Oh - I also jumped into the Tides room during Dumonde and heard a few sweet Pendulum tracks (Slam, Tarantula).
Shouts: Jeff (my former school mate), and his crew (Amanda/Matt/Colin) for adopting me during the night. Monish, I owe you a drink. Thx to the TA dude who helped me with coatcheck, I can't remember your name. Thanks Smirnoff. Sasha & Demitri, Chinaman AND mon. Shout outs to all TAs who graced me with their presence and New Year greetings. Swamper - the secret of your moves are safe with me.
Bottom line: A great start to the New Year. Good job Destiny & TR.
