cordless phones?

any recommendations/experiences with cordless phones?

my land line phone is crapping out...and I don't feel like paying Bell to install/activate another jack in my room too...so I want a cordless phone.

any suggestions on make/models? Reception/clarity and quality of the phone is most important...I don't care about features. Two handsets is ideal, but one is fine. $100-150 range is fine too.

For the last 8 or 9 years I have only purchased vTech cordless phones and they have been perfect.

If you have any sort of WiFi - stay away from anything 2.4 GHz.

motorola cordless.

Ive had this model for 2 years. No battery issues. Really good reception. And pretty cheap too!

The best part of this phone is that it charges quickly and takes forever to run out of battery power.

vtechs are often used as giveaway freebies... a fair bit of repair calls on garbage reception and stuff like CLID/VCW not working right are tracked down to phones from this company

not to say they are all garbage though... shrug

In the last 8 or 9 years I've have owned 4 vTech phones - all have had superior reception, no battery issues. The 3 vTech phones that I no longer own were given away (GF, brother, mother) and still work perfectly as well. Mind you, I have never purchased the entry-level vTech - I have always purchased the top/best model available at the time.

Consumer Search Review's Top 3: Uniden CXAI5198, VTech i5867, Panasonic KX-TG5421S

Good Housekeeping Magazine's Top 4: 5.8GHz Motorola MD 761, 2.4GHz VTech gz2334, 2.4GHz Digital Panasonic KX-TG2421 and 2.4GHZ Digital AT&T E2125.

Avoid 2.4 GHz phones.

thanks very much for the suggestions folks...it's narrowed my search quite a bit! I saw that Motorola at FS...it's on the short list. Will check out the others too.

noted, thanks...I didn't know that was an issue with WiFi. I don't have it now, but likely will in the not-too-distant future.

btw...where did you buy that one? FS, Best Buy, Sears, etc. don't stock that model...and their online distributor is $100 for it (more than conversion, still not bad).

Yes and yes. I have a 2.4 GHz Panasonic that I sometimes feel like smashing into the wall whenever my mom picks it up to talk on it, because it completely knocks off the wireless.

After some research, I found out that this is because Panasonic has some enryption that basically makes the phone jump channels every few seconds - to prevent people from listening in, I guess. All that it translates to with my wireless though, is that no matter what channel I set it up with, the Panasonic will knock it off after a few seconds.
