I don't think the average success rate is the best stat to look at. Some of us are really crappy at IDing so we pull the average down.

I think the better stat to look at is the average score of the 5th place person (i.e. someone who is decent but not the best) just to see. So I've calculated it over the last 11 rounds (using your data) and it works out to be 25% (the average of the 1st place finishers is 54%)

But is that a problem? I dunno, knowing 1 in 4 tracks from someone else's taste with only 15 seconds heard of each seems pretty good to me.

If it is, then simply asking the people who win to *boost* the mainstream trance content in their contest by X tracks should increase the average since that is the area of music ID that we all presumably share

in theory - not practice, have a look at the stats and you'll see we didnt have that much more luck with the contests that were majorly mainstream trance than we did with the ones who were of more esoteric subgenres.

The overwhelming conclusion that I drew from it was that I'm completely shite and have been throughout recorded history.

That said: the recent competitions have included more tracks, so the comparative percentage of a single point goes down. You'd expect people to get more right though...
