Guardian Angels
I was just walking down Yonge St. and saw a few members of The Guardian Angels patroling the street. They seemed very friendly and were shaking hands with people up and down the street.I was happy to see them there and thought that it was a good sign.
David Miller and the chief of police have been outspoken saying they think that it is a bad idea to have them here, and that the only thing that needs to be done is to have an increased police presence.
Personally I think that Miller and the chief of police are being naive thinking that first of all they will increase the police presence in an effective way, and that having the guardian angels here in any way impedes police progress. I feel like Miller is worried that them being here makes the problems in toronto more high profile, and that is the reason he doesn't want them here.
For those of you who don't know the guardian angels are a volunteer group of people based in new york that started with the purpose of stopping gang violence. They do not carry guns and are easty to recognize because they wear red jackets and berrets.
What do you guys think, should they be here? Is it helpful or harmful?
