Talking DJ Horus - Deep/Disco/Latin House

Smooth start, vocal follow through and a saxophone/guitar infused finish. Just a little something to stick on your iPod for a long drive or morning run.

This set was a bit of an experiment (which is why it took so long to finish) in terms of transitions between songs. I wanted to see just how close I could transition the songs, and what the overlapped songs sounded like. I think I had mixed success, but I’d like to hear what you folks think. Anyways, onto the set itself. As to the track list itself, I went for a slow overall flow from west coast deep house through disco house and finally ending with some of my favorite jazz/latin house.

I open up light and smooth with Keep It Pure (with a nod to their more popular classic Music & Wine) and Everafter. Taking a break from foreshadowing the vocal core of this set is Making Moves. This track lays down a classic sounding house groove, continued by PYT.

The set hits it’s main vocal stride with Soulful Things. This garage influenced tune connects the deep house with a light guitar hook and unique vocal. Next Kaskade gives a trademark melodic rendition of Morales’ Here I Am. The filtered guitar synth fills out the remix quite nicely. Next we have the uplifting That Feeling, which contrasts a smooth vocal sample with a sassy saxophone. This section finishes off with the diva vocals of Barbra Tucker in Most Precious Love and the blunt acoustic guitar riffs of No More.

I finish off this set with a few of my favorite house tracks. Black Sugar is an unapologetically fun song. The combination of a soloing saxophone, rolling bass line and trumpet/crowd backup is just amazing. Underneath all this hoopla Pressure Cooker sneaks in. I had this in my last set, and I still love it. Though the original mix has all of the darkness and depth this mix does, it just doesn’t feel complete w/o the guitar weaving it’s way through the song. Speaking of said guitar, it also happens to be prominently featured in Guitarra G, which I would say is my favorite house track out there. What I like about Warren Clarke’s remix is how the tone of the song has changed so drastically without loosing what made the track so deep to begin with.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the set, and I love hearing your comments!
