Other than no one being in Chicago for NYE again, things haven't been too bad here at all. I missed the big names last time around, but Tiesto, PVD, Sasha and Armin were all here this year. Max Graham is this weekend, Markus last, and BT and G&D earlier in December, not to mention the insane Deep Dish residency. Matthew Dekay played Soundbar and I believe only played 2 or 3 other U.S. dates. Smartbar has also had Porter, Howells, Derrick Carter, Tiefschwarz, etc. Spundae still sends e-mail ads and there's never been anything that's jumped out that they're putting on in other markets that we haven't seen within the past year.
| quote: | | I'll say this, you guys (You, Mili, James, and Seneca in particular) seem to have worked out a pretty good situation, and you've definitely set the bar higher for a lot of the locals. I'm not saying there aren't a lot of cheesy Chicago DJ's that still get booked, you 4 obviously aren't playing everywhere all the time, I think it's very obvious how hard you guys work to gain the support of the clubbers in Chicago, and soon hopefully you'll all see the emergence of more and more support for the locals... |
Going off of this, I remember having a discussion with some TAs last week at Soundbar about how much quality there's been as far as the locals go. A lot of times I've found them to be more enjoyable than the big names because they put 10x the effort into their sets, since they're often playing to the same faces every week and want to maintain quality while trying to play fresh tracks.
