From my understanding the movie "It's All Gone Pete Tong" is based on a true story of Frakie Wilde played by Paul Kaye. However, I was told that the actual person its based on is a fake? There is no Frankie Wilde or is that just an alias?

Frankie Wilde is the fictional protagonist of the 2004 movie It's All Gone Pete Tong. Frankie, played by Paul Kaye, is a famous DJ, whose job and lifestyle lead to him going deaf. The mockumentary style of the motion picture, which includes the false statement "This film is based on a true story" at its beginning, has lead many people to believe that Frankie Wilde actually exists or existed. This misconception has been reinforced by the creation of a number of web sites referring to him as a brilliant DJ.
the movie is as Jon says a mockumentary... however i googled some keywords and i found there once was a DJ who did eventually go deaf and tried to continue to spin... He was never any good to begin with... and he spun hip hop and R&B... and he was even worse when he did... i think he was shot (dont quote me on that part)... really its nothing worth mentioning... i dont know why i did
SOURCE UNKNOWN.... (was googled when i first heard about this movie... and now i can't find it again)

great movie...
real or not, the way he teaches himself to "FEEL" the sound is just simply awe inspiring
I give propos to the movie - I liked it. Othar than the presented fame of Frankie Wilde, his looks, behaviour and drug habbits were very similar to many amature TOTA DJs.

I heard from a friend of a friend who knows the sound guy on the set that the DJ actually does exist and the story is true, although Frankie Wilde is not his real name, and that those who say the movie is fake are really faking.

I've heard two contrasting views: 1 being that is uplifting to watch and the other being that its fucking depressing.... After watching requim for a dream I'm highly skeptical of ever watching anything with such a negative plot line but have been curious to see this one.
So whats the vote? inspiring or negative light?

I watched it with my brother who thinks its very depressing. Myself, I found it very uplifting and positive. LOL, youve gotta watch it and decide for yourself.
