how do I get rid of nasty static cling on my vinyls??
my dogs' hair and dust is sticking to them and it's starting to show
what's an easy effective way to get that gunk off of my precious vinyls?

should I get stanton turntables?
tell me what are the pro's and cons of various decks
so far I'm choosing between technics and stanton, what do you think

Um, I could probably rattle off a large physics-oriented explination of static cling and electricity, but basically if you really do have static cling on your vinyl, rub something soft on your vinyl's to remove some of the charges that are keeping gunk on your records and see how that works.

As far as Technics vs. Stanton's, I'm pretty sure everyone will tell you to buy Tech's, and for the most part I agree. I currently have Stanton STR8-80's, which I recieved as a present from my girlfriend and her mom (slick eh?). They work fine for what I do, but had I bought my own gear I would have gone with Technics, and ultimatley I'm learning and practicing on my Stanton decks now and saving for Technics, so that should speak for itself. I don't know much about the new 100 series Stanton came out, but I guess it's around the same price as Tech's. If money is no object, get tech's, but if you are looking for an entry level deck, the stanton's aren't bad.

well the 100's are much better than 80's... first of all, they've got a much stronger motor, and also, this is rather interesting, they've got a thing taht lets you change the pitch without changing the key... you also get an option of getting an either straight or s shaped tone arm, cool eh?

I took physics too, and I was wondering if you could remember the actual thing that would take the charge from the vinyl.

and yes yes I know everyone would tell me to pick the technics over the stantons, but how many people can actually tell me more than that? I want some facts and comparisons on this ticket

well.. if you get techs. you won't need new ones in 10 years, they will last you for life.

only thing is, i wish tech12s spun backwards.

i played with some STR8-80s, and it was fun as hell to put records on backwards at 78RPM..

but technics are the world standard. you go to a rave, or club, they are going to be what you have to use.

Raving, I've never been on a set of 1200's before. How'd you like the STR8-80's, and how much am I really missing out on? (That will determine how soon I should start saving)

well i'm at a technical school and i took a few years of physics so i guess this is my chance to teach.. ahaha

remember the zepplin? it blew up b/c static electricity. static electricy will occure when anything moves, when something rubs against a sleeve, air, whatever. the molecular friction brings about a transfer of electrons. the electrons made a spark in the zepplin and blew that ****** up.

what to do. ground yourself before touching your records, and each time you play your record get an anti-static brush that you need to pump w/ your hands to make a static shock that is supposed to get rid of the records static (i dunno if it works). and also ground your record via wire before and after each play.

or you can buy some gruv glide like i do for 25 bucks and coat the ****** once. it kills the static. after a few months iv noticed my most played records have been a little staticy again, so i just recoat em and its fine. gruv glide is the shit. the pads are amazing for swiping each time b4 play (if ur anal like me), and the actual gruv glide is great for when u first buy the record it cleans everything pretty well -- except greasy finger prints but if u put greasy finger prints on your records you'll need some discwasher d4 stuff to get rid of them.. fingerprints are bad don't do em unless ur a super dj and can replace records like water. unless ur a scrather u can foward/reverse ur records pretty easily from the label.
