Um, I could probably rattle off a large physics-oriented explination of static cling and electricity, but basically if you really do have static cling on your vinyl, rub something soft on your vinyl's to remove some of the charges that are keeping gunk on your records and see how that works.
As far as Technics vs. Stanton's, I'm pretty sure everyone will tell you to buy Tech's, and for the most part I agree. I currently have Stanton STR8-80's, which I recieved as a present from my girlfriend and her mom (slick eh?). They work fine for what I do, but had I bought my own gear I would have gone with Technics, and ultimatley I'm learning and practicing on my Stanton decks now and saving for Technics, so that should speak for itself. I don't know much about the new 100 series Stanton came out, but I guess it's around the same price as Tech's. If money is no object, get tech's, but if you are looking for an entry level deck, the stanton's aren't bad.
