I wasn't familiar with those sites you named in your subject so I checked them out. Sunsnail might have said that because some of those are public trackers.
Mininova appears to be an Easynews wannabe. If your looking to get stuff from newsgroups, Easynews is unbeatable. For 10 bucks a month, you get 20GB to download and what you don't use, rolls over into a gig bank. I've got 85GB in my bank right now. I've been a member since 1998. Best 10 bucks a month you could ever want to spend IMO.
Torrentspy looks alright although its a public tracker and some people feel a little nervous about that.
Not sure about blackcat games.
I personally use private trackers. More anonimity that way.

Never torrented a game except for the Half Life 2 Leak. I just wanted to see the physics engine and read the Team Fortress 2 source code.

Bitsoup, sladinki007, gametorrents....I could name dozens of private trackers. Best thing about a website+tracker vs. a newsgroup is you have everything categorized. And someone verifies the files (the first downloader instead of YOU), so if a file is actually fake/corrupt, it will be pulled off the tracker. Because a tracker requires registration, it is easier to ban ppl who upload bad files. As far as anonymity, I agree that newsgroups are much safer.
But to each his own....do what you will. Just get the files you want
