What in the hell is up w/ ma table..

goddamnit....i just spent $$$ on a new sl1200 and something is seriously facked...right now my setup is technics, roland dj1000, and a new pair of shure m35x's....

ok...the sound is distorted...the highs are choppily distorted, the bass is not clean and tight like it should be....im not sure what the hell the problem is....i have the pressure set to 1.6g w/ the extra weight between the headshell and cart...

i was remembering an earlier post about the contacts from the tonearm getting dirty or something...well, this table is brand spankin new, so it couldnt be that so soon could it?

i dont think its the mixer, cuz i can run cd's through it fine...i hooked the tt up to the other mixer, the numark, and it still sounded shite....im guessin its somthing with the contacts or the cart....

what do you guys think??? im stressin right now

respect
lex

i'm willing to bet you have the output of the mixer plugged into the phono input on the amp. you need to plug it into the line input.

hmm...

well, in that case, all I can suggest is narrowing the problem down. eliminate the wires, the mixer, the decks, the records, the needles, everything..

you know what I mean right? by plugging things in and out of the chain, you can isolate what the problem is..

maybe you have the decks plugged into the line ins on the mixer?

make sure you have everything hooked up right and start fiddling with everything one piece at a time, that way you can find where the problem is and fix it like ravinglunatic said

i'm not too sure if having a phono signal going to a line in would distort it, it wouldn't sound right, but because a phono signal is at a lower voltage than a line level it souldn't distort, just be under-powered
the distortion would come from a line level signal going into a phono input where there would be a pre-amp present

i would think that your gains are too high, lower those and set your channel faders higher...
let us know what happens...

turns out it was just the record...damn private taste - first (max graham mix)

everything else is alright, slapped on some other records, swapped tables and mixer.....borrowed some needles, all to find out it was just that one damned song..... grrrrrrr
