That's old video of Rick Wakeman.
Far from his best, but the man rocks.. On again off again keyboard player in "Yes". His younger son Adam is widely recognised as following closely in his footsteps (They even toured as "Wakeman with Wakeman".)
His elder son Oliver is also really good.
He started as a session musican on the London circuit, and has played on many classic records, including David Bowie's "Space Oddity" with an insane Stylophone solo (yea the Rolf Harris peice of crap for those old enough to remember!)
Rick is a serious influence on a whole genaration of Synth "Players" as opposed to sequencer gurus.
Also does a mean stand up commedy.
Anyway, don't dis the mullet it was some time ago.
This guy has forgotten more about advanced music than any 20 people on ths board combined.
BTW the non 4/4 time signatures may throw those who grew up with Ferry Corsten..
or those miserable about the sounds he's mostly playing a Roland D-50 a Korg SG1 for cying out loud (Circa 1987)

Hi IDarkISwordI,
I think you misunderstood me, where did I say 4/4 was best? I listen to all kinds of music e.g. 'Birds of fire' by 'Mahavishnu Orchestra' a Jazz Fusion song! If you check that out you'll notice a different time signature, I love that song and it's not 4/4. I like 'Times Like These' by the 'Foo Fighters' and so on... I just do not give a shit if someone plays hanging upside down, with their feet, in an 8/3 signature. To me it's just an illusion, a distraction from what I think is a crap song.
Even this post is a distraction from the fact that I offered my opinion saying I enjoyed the link (once) but wouldn't listen to it again because musically I don't like it. Then I'm indirectly told I have ONLY grew up on F.C. (Bull) and don't understand time signatures other than 4/4 (Bull). If you guys like it - fair enough, but I think it's crap!
Maybe I should have just said "Gosh, what a splendid little number, his dexterity is astounding and one must marvel at his clever use of tempo changes and alternating time signatures" But I didn't, I gave an honest answer which did not insult anyone. I am critical about the music and nothing but the music. |
Yeah, except the way you worded it left the impression that 'wierd' time signitures tend to be much less popular than 4/4 time. You also pretty much assume, everything that guy plays is crap because you have not heard anything else he has created. This seems a little presumtuous on both points. I meant no offense, but maybe watch your wording a little.
Cheers,
Zac

Props to Rick Wakeman!
The start of the video was pretty good sounding wise but I'll agree it sounded shit towards the end with the old west, saloon style piano stuff.
His other stuff is awesome tho. Try to find previews on allofmp3 etc.
