I'd stay about from the biometrics stuff for now.
Sure it's cool and an ego boost to impress your friends but unless you live in some delusional cloak and dagger world there's no need for it.
The encrypted way would be the best route.
Actually the best route would be not to put any sensitive data on something that could potential be 'lost'...
