FinalScratch without ScratchAmp?

I know this is possible using the DjDecks software, but is it possible with Traktor 3 Studio. I'm interested in going vinyl, but being a poor college student, and the nearest record shop being 5 hours away (I live in Iceland ), I need some alternative... without spending 600$ on FinalScratch

1. Is it the hardware unit (ScratchAmp) the decodes the analog signal or is it done in Traktor (software)?

2. Is the timecode signal audible sound?? If so, do you know where I can get a sample of it for experimenting??

3. Can Traktor 3 use FS timecode without a ScratchAmp present?

If someone could get me a sample of the timecode track that would be great, I'd only need like a 15 second sample (that is, if it is actually audible sound).

PS: btw, I know I'd have to use a preamp to amplify the phono signal or use players with Line out....

interesting Q. i was once thinking about it myself
i guess the timecode signal decoding is done in the AMP, then digital instructions are sent to Traktor via USB, and then Traktor sends a digital signal of the sound back to the AMP, which D/A converts it and sends via LINE OUT to your mixer.
im not sure though...
anyone?

Not 100 percent sure on this, but if you get this make sure its in an uncompressed format like wav. If you get an mp3 of it it might kill the digital part of it since its compressed with how you hear it in mind instead of the tracking signal itself, which might kill the results of your experiment.

Yup, I anticipated that. I was hoping for an uncompressed sample or high resolution mp3 (320kbps). I really wanna try this out and see if it works

from what I know thats how the djdecks work:

the timecoded vinyl sends out a timecode tru your soundcard to your PC, then the DJ Decks software does its thing and sends out a song on lineout or whatever. Im guessing it might work the same way I might be wrong though

As far as I know..
The scratch amp in FS is nothing more than a glorified sound card with two RIAA preamps. I dont think it does any processing of the sound.

SSL on the other hand is a little more advanced in that it can automatically switch to normal vinyl mode when it loses USB connection or when triggered by the software.

That's what I'm hoping . I have a decent 4in 4out soundcard, and with preamps it might be possible to connect the decks straight into the computer and enjoy the possibilities of Final Scratch for only the price of the preamps and 2 FS records (together about 100$)... But I can't fully test my theory until I get a sample of the timecode

I think even software preamps are fine to hookup turntables into line in.
