xone 92 question

I recently upgraded to the Xone 92 and I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival . I was wondering if any of you Xone users can shed some light on how the LFOs work in conjunction with the filters? Thanks.

The LFO just repeats your chosen filter at a constant rate, determined by the tempo that you tap in. Unfortunately, it only reads your last two taps, so it's not incredibly accurate. It sounds great, though. When you hit 2x, the speed doubles. Pretty cool effect, but not something you want to do all the time.

The LFO will oscillate the filter frequency in a sine wave pattern at a rate set by your most recent two taps. You have control of the depth or amplitude of the sweep with the LFO Depth knob. I use it most often in conjunction with the LPF. When using it I recommend that you start with the LFO depth setting fully counter-clockwise and carefully raising the depth to the desired amount. Before activating the LFO keep the depth at a minumum before you turn it on in most cases.

Example proceedure once you have assigned the X or Y filter to your live channel:

1. Set Resonance to approximitely 2-3 O'clock (or at the point you determine to be neither loss or gain in the selected frequency position)
2. Activate LPF with Filter Frequency at 20,000Hz (full clockwise)
3. Set LFO Depth to full counter-clockwise.
4. Tap exactly on the offbeat of the kick (where the high hats and tambourines would be).
5. Turn on the LFO.
6. Gradually raise the LFO Depth to the desired amount by rotating the LFO Depth knob clockwise.

This example proceedure will give you a great starting point on how you can use the LFO because of the rather dramatic nature of the effect when used in conjunction with a LPF.

Important note:
Try to determine early on when learning your XONE 92 what the approximate knob position for the resonance level to be flat so that you eliminate a "surprise frequency spike" when activating any or all of the filters. You can do this by ear or by using a frequency/dB meter such as one provided in Logic 7s helper plug-in. On my rig the resonance knob is approximately 2-3 O'clock when it seems to be flat.
I hope this helps. Enjoy!
