Break-beat isn't a genre, it's simply a type of beat. And the amount of styles and sub-genres of music using breaks is massive.

right. breaks started out b/c b-boys and breakdancers only used to dance on the BREAKS of songs and that wasnt always long enough. so basically all they did was make a style of music that was basically one long break. next time notice the amount of b-boys wen you go to a breaks party. as for artists and DJs i dont know too many.. icey, baby anne, hybrid, dynamix II check those out for now i gues

Basically you're asking for recommendations in a huge, huge amount of music. If you want breaks that are easy to start on, I'd recommend early Future Sound of London, Hybrid, Way Out West, etc. But they aren't atypical "breaks" producers by any means.

Alright, there are lots of breaks out there, and with the progressive breaks dying, it's become increasingly harder to find nice orginial breaks. Here are some nice breaks that you might find intresting

Slacker - Tutikinegi [SAMPLE]
Precision - What Its Like [SAMPLE]
Ali Kay - Illusion [SAMPLE]
Ali Kay - The Beach [SAMPLE]
Smoke Keepers - Fear [SAMPLE]
Sub 6 - The 7th Son (Andre Absolut Remix)[SAMPLE]

And Yunus Guvenen - Fever [SAMPLE] probably has one of THE sickest breaks in the breakdown... Jon Lisle set it off in peak hour... the place went absolutely nuts!!

i dunno, i consider breaks a genre.... Florida breaks are unlike anything else ive ever heard. Though it is true that usually the dj's just spin a brekbeat thru trance music thus creating a whole new sound.
