Metallic Pads

I've been wondering if anyone knows how to make metallic sounding pads? Most of my string instruments can't produce that synthesized metallic sound. Do you guys use phasor or flanging? I really like this effect. Here's a sample that kind of has the right idea.

that can be created on most VA synths....its just a simple chord and a sawtooth wave(s).

Maybe a little distortion on there too. Also, it sounds like it's hard-compressed.

The key is a lot of high tones. EQ your pad to bring out the high partials and make them all screechy. Maybe play around with some high end sine waves. The partials in that sample almost seem loud enough to define themselves as sines. Experiment with distortion and compression to get some more high partials.

Try a FM or a granular synth.

supersaws, compression and distortion.
I've recently started experimenting with distortion alot, and I've been getting great results using Z3ta and NI Guitar Rig's distortion effects. IMO, dirty guitar effects are very good for these type of sounds

A touch of plate or spring reverb won't go amiss either...adds that nice metallic "ring" to a synth.
