Short review of Gabriel & Dresden, Scarlett Etienne in San Francisco
Way too tired to give a full review. I really wish I would have taken my phat camera.
Anyhow, having never heard Scarlett before, I must say she is very, very impressive. Actually, I was kinda blown away. I got in and she was just tearing it up. Noice.
Gabriel & Dresden came on at midnight and the first two hours of their set they played purely their style as of late. And actually, out of probably the fifteen times I've seen them, it was the most impressive, solid two hours of any of their sets, IMO. The programming, mixing, etc was just top notch. I can't wait for their album because the stuff they played from it (I think) it TIGHT. The last hour seemed to be more about the favorites, the classics so it's really tough to review it. G&D plays different here than the few times I've heard them in LA, I must say...with them playing more of their natural style here which I actually prefer more. It's unique and you don't really hear anyone else play the tracks they play.
Anyhow, it was a night full of heavy consumption of alcohol, lol. I had a great time even though I went in dead tired. I think Scarlett and G&D playing in the same lineup is a perfect match. Their styles compliment each other so well. Hope to see the same lineup sooner rather than later.
