Question anyone have experience booking big-name DJ's?

Right now I'm in the process of organizing an event in May and want to book at least one major headliner. I'm thinking about Blank & Jones, Matt Darey and Judge Jules from Most Wanted Booking or Gabriel & Dresden from Chaotica amongst others. While I do have some experience organizing and promoting small to mid size event I do not have much experience booking superstar DJ's so I could use any helpful info. Thanks in advance.

Ooh, you're in Seattle? Get over to the NWTA forum here; it's pretty much dead.

My advice would be to contact whatever agency they're with; typically there will be a form on that agency's website that you'll need to fill out. As long as you have some solid positive history in our scene, you should be fine. Oh, and you'll need money with names, especially those such as G&D.

Also, if you're booking Trance, the age-limit on the event should at least be 18+ for our area. 21+ nights with Trance, unless it's someone like Oakey, Tiesto, Armin, or PVD, will most likely bomb. I'd recommend 16+.

Oh... Need a House DJ?

What exactly is your reasoning for all these age restrinctions?

Because I live in the same scene he's going to be promoting in, and I've seen many shows bomb. Trance nights at a 21+ club in this area generally fail unless you're bringing in a DJ from the top ten area of the DJ Mag list. Most 21+ clubs here succeed because of Drum and Bass and Progressive House.

Not every local scene is the exact same throughout the world, which is why I enjoy local scenes. Each will respond differently to various DJs and how they are booked.

yes, this will be an all-ages show..he's right the scene here is very fragrmented. Seattle is a great music city and has a fairly vibrant nightlife, but there is not one dominated scene. it is a scene of scenes...there's a ton of different kinds of music out here and lots of small venues/parties but not much unity. the only other all-ages show that actually has all-ages show-not just mostly under 21-and over 21, was Freak Night last October.

Progressive House and Tech House, n00b. None of that "Swedish Mafia Tech House" stuff, though.

Hello!

If you are thinking of booking in May you better contact agents now. Most of the time "Big Name" Dj's are booked months in advanced. Remeber you also have to sale the event to their Managers as well. They will want to know Age, Ticket price, how many people can the venue hold... Keep in Mind They are not going to agree if it is going to be a "weak party"

Once you make your request stay on top of them. Aggents, and managers are super bussy and get a ton of emails a day!!! Soon your request will get lost in the many they recive.

Also keep in mind that everything cost money so you need a way or backings to help with the cost.

I hope that helps
