Ya know I still have more respect for Paul Oakenfold over any other dj.

1) Hes been doing it since the mid 80s
2) He discovered BT
3) His GOA mixes set the stage for all essential mixes following them.
4) He toured with U2 bringing dance music to the masses.
5) Owner/founder of perfecto records. Discovered numerous artist Dfuse, Timo maas etc.


But his hair is ridiculous .


And i believe the song may be referring to his career "its not over yet" lol.

Ok...I know there are going to be PLENTY of Oakenfold bashers out there but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Oakey has played a major role in the evolution of dance music. We've all heard his mix CDs, his "dance" remixes, and his live performances (cough...trainwrecks, cough) in various clubs. Shit, I even played with the guy once in NY and hit an afterhours with him in Boston, which by the way was quite a unique experience. Almost as unique as my afterhours experience with Sasha at the infamous Harvard University Phoenix house. But I digress.....

Simply put, the man is a genius. Maybe not behind a set of turntables, but in a business/marketing sense he NAILED it. I remember a decade ago when I heard my first Perfecto record. I'm not ashamed to admit it: I own just about every perfecto record ever put out.

But the man was able to promote himself, his record label, trance, EDM, and his lackluster musical ability to the entire planet. How many DJ's/producers/musicians have been able to do that? He is known worldwide and even people that know nothing about EDM know his name. In my very humble opinion, he was able to pave the way for guys like AVB, Ferry, and in some smaller way, PVD.

And yes, I am in awe of the fact that he gets away with mediocre mixing along with short, lazy sets. But he's a global icon who built himself from the ground up into a household name. Love him or hate him, you gotta respect him.....

We get him doing the JCP plus him doing another version of it on a 'soccer' field and holding up a British Football trophy, f'n great!

Really, it looked interesting, but I agree with djRocket, this should have been done in '99 or around five years ago. He's certainly done a lot for the scene, and like him, love him or hate him, you have to respect that trance and EDM is not where it is today without his work. I know a lot of you are Oakie haters and for me, he hasn't done too much the past few years (His 2004 mix of Beautiful Day rocks though.). I haven't come across a notable Perfecto release in a while and everytime I saw him in '05, it seemed to be the same old tracks. Some of his other 1990's essential mixes asides from Goa and the '99 tour are really good and worth checking out though.
