LCD Monitor issue

Hey all,

with my two new Proview 19" monitors, I have a problem with its sharpness. More with Windows XP as with Windows 2k so it seems, though I might be wrong.

It appears that all windows I open have a certain thin, fuzzy shadow-like effect on screen (except when maximizing) to their right.

The fonts on screen also have a similar un-sharpness or fuzzyness to them to the right, even with ClearType turned on in Windows XP.

Does someone know how to solve this issue? I know Windows has a shadow option for its screen, though this is not the case (tried this already). My two monitors are connected using a 1.8m extension cable, would this cause the issue perhaps?

Thanks!
Wim

PS: if nobody understands what I mean, I can always try to make some pictures

I think i know what your talking about. I had a similar problem like this, and could not find a solution. So i reinstalled Windows, and took the case off to look at my Vid card. Made sure it was in properly, and i checked all the cables going from the tower to the Screen.

When i was finished it was all fine. It was kind of odd actually.

yerp, goto ur desktop setttings and up your refresh rate to 75mhz. That worked for me with Proview. Also go into the monitors setup and adjust the sync setting if its still a little phased, there is a sweet spot in thier somewhere, although just hitting the auto setting usual works. No longer have this problem at all now after installing a geforce 5700, they sync perfect now

and thanks for the samples too, really nice, might get the pack this coming payday

Just re-iterating whats been said :P

Change your refresh rate, try tweaking your sync rate, screw around with different resolutions (Some less expensive monitors fuzz at high res). Also, turn off all the annoying, laggy windows xp graphics stuff (My Computer->Properties->Advanced->Performance, turn it to best performance).

As far as I know, LCD monitors runs at 60Hz all the time.
Only CRT screens needs higher refresh rates to make a clearer image.
Anyways. The problem might be in your drivers. Some LCD screens needs drivers properly installed.

If that don't work, try downloading and installing
ClearType Tuner from MS. It's supposed to smooth out fontedges and stuff. You'll find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...ppowertoys.mspx
Add a screenshot. Might be easier to see what kind of fuzziness you are talking about.

I love my DVI output on my video card. I don't even worry about that stuff on my left monitor. 75hz no problem.

However my right monitor is a different story. While I never had the problem you are experience Icone, I did have to tweak with my refresh rate for some reason I had it at a low refresh rate (60hz) however once I bumped it up to 75hz it fixed the problem.

Meh, LCDs are where it's at though. Unless you do photo-manipulation and graphic design, then it's CRTs FTW!

Proviews do run at either 60hz, 65hz, 70hz, 75hz. No problems running at 60Hz now but running at 75hz got rid of the same problems with another video card I had at the time (GF 4). DVI would be nice tho as it negates the fuzzy problem all together (i.e. no D/A conversion period)

Thanks for the tips all!

Apparently, it was the VGA extension cable that caused the problem... Removed it and now it's fixed. Ah, clear image

Was wondering though how I could run both monitors at 75Hz? My left monitor is ok at that refresh rate, though I can only go to max 70Hz for the right one, otherwise it seems to 'jump' towards half of the screen (so I can't see half of it). The 'auto' switch on the monitor doesn't resolve this either.

You should not have to mess with the refresh rate on an LCD. Just use the default like 60 Hz or whatever. With CRTs you want to crank it up as much as you can but LCDs like to be at their standard refresh rate.
