Dancing Dude programs written for dual core

I'm building a new computer with AMD64 dual core my question is: are most music production programs like Reason and Cubase written to take advantage of dual core? I know in windows NT they said programs were written to milti thread or use 2 processors.

finally Reason is supporting dual core based macs as propellerheads claimed on their website.
now they have to do a beta testing and they will release a 3.05 patch to adapt the engine and the libraries to the dual core platforms.

so when reason supports dual core, am i right thinking that there will be a huge difference in cpu power usage in reason? i know it speaks for its self but is the strain on the cpu be way less.

I just upgraded my DAW to AMD64 dual core about 3 months ago. I have a dual opteron 165 running at 2.5ghz. It's sweeeeeet. I never have to concern myself about multiple instances of synths and effect and never need to convert to audio now except on final mixdown. I use CubaseSX with the new multi processor update. I can't speak for Reason but I've done dual core benchmark tests with Cubase and the results have been good. It's not that your cpu usage is less per say it's that you have one more extra core for processing.

To get an accurate measurement of the kind of performance increase you get with and AMD dual-core in real world work, look at my screenshot running cubase and then run the same test on your system and compare. I ran 4 instances of every cubase synth and 13 roomworks reverbs and 5 ReverbA plugs. Midi running in play mode through every synth and looped continuously. CPU usage was at 80% and still running stable. CPU was stock 1.8ghz. http://www.angelfire.com/music5/the...chmark_test.JPG

Also you can run Sisofts Sandra arithmetic benchmark to compare your system with my results on my screenshot except that bench was at 2.5ghz.
