I’m not really a big fan of Synthpop in general, but there are a few tracks I’ve heard that have really impressed me, Theatre of Tragedy – Machine (VNV Nation Remix) for example. I like tracks that tend to have trancy elements. I’ve been recommended other remixes by VNV Nation. Any suggestions for tracks or artists along these same lines?

Dont know that song, but try Royksopp maybe?

Not sure if its synthpop or not, but its got a pretty damn synthetic feel to it with a somewhat trancey vibe.
